Default A brief intro to Dave

Wanted to start out with introducing myself, I've read plenty of threads on this forum, and you guys and gals seem to be my kind of enthusiast group! I am a chef by day, and an amateur mechanic by night, I love fixing and building cars and motorcycles. Current project brings me 2 × 2000 model year jags to play with. My father had a 2000 xk8 in his garage that lost compression due to bore wash 3 years ago and has sat ever since. I was able to talk him into agreeing to give me the 2000 xj8 if I can fix both (xj sat for 10 years with bore wash and several faults in about every module). I look forward to sharing my experience and drawing from other members their knowledge on these beautiful cars! Thanks, Dave

In August of 2000 Jaguar replaced the previously used Nikasil-linings with steel linings.
The actual Nikasil cut-off date is Aug. 08 2000 so there is good chance you have those
engine types. You can try this method which some have found success with:
remove
the plugs, squirt several oz. of oil into each cylinder
, spin the crank to rid the excess oil,
then put in cleaned or new plugs, and start it up.

Default Thanks Randy

Thanks! I had it up and running, having taken care of the bore wash, now I lost spark and am replacing the crank position sensor. I appreciate the advice! I know I'll have to redress bore wash afterwards since having lost spark and trying repeatedly to crank after each possibility was addressed. I'll post again when I figure it out. Or if I get stumped...🤣
