Bulb Replacment under Shift Indicator
Any advice on how to replace the light bulbs under the shift lever indicator? I have one of apparently two bulbs out, and it isn't obvious what I need to remover after removing the trim.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Not sure if yours is the same as my 99 XJR. I just replaced my J-gate due to the dreaded LCD mirror leak. Mine were actually soldered onto a circuit board. I'm guessing they were LCD's not bulbs.
The bulbs that light the gear position are red LEDs.
The bulbs that light the J-Gate path are incandescent soldered onto the board.
The procedure to replace the incandescent ones has been described on that other Jag board by me, rafferd.
It is a simple soldering job.
Good luck!

And 150 an hour to replace it.
I have relied on my Jaguar dealer's shop to maintan this cat over the years, but at this point, I can spend it's blue book value each year maintaining it there. I am quite handy and can work on certain things myself. This looks like one that I am capable of taking care of -- even if it means desoldering and resoldering a connection myself. I recently repaired my cup holder mechanism (a $150 to $180 part depending upon where you buy it) by rebuilding the broken part of it.

Just replaced the two little incandesant light bulbs on the J-Gate lighting unit circuit board. Bulbs can be found at Radio Shack -- RS part number: 272-1154. The leads need to be clipped to about 1/8th inch or less. I managed to do it without disconnecting the board from the car (but I did pull the fuse - No. 16 in the left back seat kick panel).
