I have a 98 XJR I had to remove the SLCM security and locking. I closed the trunk and now I can not get it open. Has anyone ever had this problem before?h

I have a friend who has a 2002 jaguar. Dose anyone know if the security locking control module are interchangeable? They have different part numbers but they look like they will bolt up.

 

Key? There is a lockhole next to the right badge, and the key should turn ~90 degrees. They get stuck from dust and dirt sometimes, but nothing some WD40 should not solve.
If not, use the search function of this fantastic forum, opening the trunk without a key has been posted a million times.

I think the SLCM has to be programmed after install.
It will fit mechanically, but a 98 had less security options, so they indeed might be different.

 

I will have to search around the form for opening the trunk without a key. I can put my key in the back and turn it 90 degree's but nothing happens when I do. It just remains locked. The different years have different part number slcm's that's what I am asking. i hate to spend money on something I cant use.

 

Got it.
There is a VCATS label in the trunk under the cd player in the spare wheel well, you might need to pull up the liner to see it.
It lists all mayor control module codes.

There is some variation possible if you want to use a 2nd hand unit, but you will need to check the range on the internet, as I have no idea the playroom for your particular unit.

Hi Bigredjaguar. I had a real problem opening the boot/trunk, and posted a thread called 'Double Trouble'. I actually cut a piece (3" x 2") out of the lid behind the number plate, and took pictures that are shown on the thread. Mine had to be a piece cut out as I had, let's say, unusual problems with a cup nut that got lodged in the mechanism, but, it can be opened drilling a hole and using a screwdriver to flip the mechanism, Have a look at the pictures I posted and it will show you the exact mechanism you're trying to move, there's also some information where exactly to drill the hole.

When done, paint the hole edges so they don't rust, put a rubber bung/plug in the hole and refit the number plate, totally unnoticeable when finished.
