Details on Win7 64 bit new install method & new JTIS21 XJ series archive
5 Attachment(s)
Hi
The Details on Win7 64 bit new install method & new JTIS21 XJ series archive are listed here in this thread. Now here are the details: There is now a new install PDF file “Installing DA350.dll in Win7 64 bit ver 1.1” PDF file. This file has step by step instructions and screenshots. There are really only 4 steps in getting the software installed using this method: Run Microsoft Help software file - 32 bit for 64 bit OS - Windows6.1-KB91760 - - this prepares the PC to handle 32 bit help files (using "run as administrator" option) Put the DAO350.dll file into the correct folder, then register the DAO350.dll (using “run as administrator” option) Run XP-Fix file – that is included in the Special Edited version archives or can be downloaded separately (using “run as administrator” option) Run the setup.exe file in the JTIS21 folder to install the JTIS21 software (using “run as administrator” option) That’s it – all done Now here is the why and where information: I started a new thread “JTIS21 Win7 64 install method & new archives” in the general tech section yesterday: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/g...rchives-65926/ I am repeating the same information here in this thread (and also in the other appropriate Jaguar model sections). Well – Here is the initial information: We finally have a way to install the JTIS21 Jaguar Shop manual on all the Win7 64 bit computers without having to install vitual machines or xp mode. This is how it was accomplished: By Plums furnishing the right technical information and advice on how to get it working properly By yours truly finding the required files and putting them in proper locations (later doing the 1st successful install on my Win7 64 bit pro laptop) then writing the instructions and inserting the screen shots that are now in the install PDF file, also successfull install on Win7 64 bit Home premium desktop By Translator furnishing other technical advice on improving the instructions and doing the 2nd & 3rd successful installs on other win7 64 bit computers. UPDATE: Medifire.com problem with large split files (archives with multiple parts) - mediafire wanting download fee. You can download the files from dropbox.com - see post# 19 in this thread for the download links to dropbox.com JTIS archive files. I created separate Special Edited versions of the JTIS21 by Jaguar model series as shown in the screenshot above. Folder “JTIS 21” has the four folders listed below it. Also has the Win7 64 bit JTIS21 install instructions PDF file (Installing DA350.dll in Win7 64 bit ver 1.1); the JTIS21 instructions and illustrations PDF file; and the Mediafire download & Extract instructions PDF file. Folder “JTIS21 All Parts” has the entire JTIS21 archive – the 3 self extract archive files total 481 megs – also the technical guides archive and the CD disk label image file. The Special Edited JTIS21 archives by model series have the Win 64 bit Install PDF file and the 64 bit files included in them. Folder “S Type JTIS” is a special edited JTIS archive – it has 2 self extract archive files that total 277 megs – only has the Jaguar S Type model shop repair information (The X type, XJ series and XK series have been removed). Folder “X Type JTIS” also is SE JTIS archive with 2 files self extracting in the archive (311 megs) - only X Type is included, other models have been removed. Update Note - I updated this archive (now includes the xpfix.exe as of 10:00am EST 1/6/12). If you are missing the xpfix.exe file, you can download xpfix.exe using the link below for my account on mediafire.com Folder “XJ Series JTIS” same type of SE JTIS archive – 2 files (344 megs) only XJ models Series. Update Note - I updated this archive (now includes the xpfix.exe as of 10:00am EST 1/6/12). If you are missing the xpfix.exe file, you can download xpfix.exe using the link below for my account on mediafire.com Folder “XK Series JTIS” same type of SE JTIS archive – 2 files (287 megs) only XK models Series The reason these archives are still pretty large is that the graphic files in the DATA/GRAPHIC folder total 225 megs (just over 13000 files). All these JTIS archives are also available on my personal mediafire.com account – here are the weblinks S Type Free File Sharing Made Simple - MediaFire X Type Free File Sharing Made Simple - MediaFire XJ Series http://www.mediafire.com/?gbpriw5milokh XK Series http://www.mediafire.com/?bmorw1escearp Win7 64 bit instructions and required files (Win7 issues) http://www.mediafire.com/?987a1qjb2aal7 Here are screenshots showing the JTIS21 XJ Special Edited version: First Screen that opens https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...ine=1357597477 Next Screen after Service selection (XJ Range and Model year 2001 selected) Normal screen with a picture of the Car and the graphical choices (General Information, Powertrain, etc) https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...ine=1357597477 Here is the Screen after using view menu and the Text Navigator option. It shows listing index with the Body and Paint – sub categories listed. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...ine=1357597477 The top menu bar – DTC Summaries, Maintenace Schedules – all work properly and it will let you view all the Jaguar model series and model years that are in the normal full JTIS21. The Electrical Diagrams for the other model series have been removed to reduce the size of the download archives and save the disk space on your PC. Here is what happens if you try to use Service selection for anything other than XJ Range (in this case S-Type) https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...ine=1357597477 I am sure there will be questions and I will be the point person for all the support issues Sorry - this post is so lengthy Jim Lombardi |
xpfix.exe missing from the JTIS21 XJ archive
Hi
Update: I updated this archive (now includes the xpfix.exe as of 10:00am EST 1/6/12). If you are missing the xpfix.exe file, you can download xpfix.exe using the link below for my account on mediafire.com I just noticed that the xpfix.exe file is not in the JTIS21 XJ archive, also it is not in the JTIS21 X-Type archive. you can download it using the link below for my account on mediafire.com, I will be fixing the archive to include it as soon as possible. Free File Sharing Made Simple - MediaFire I also added this notice highlighted in red on post #1. Jim Lombardi |
I doubt even Jaguar Car Ltd have this option - well done Jim once again.
Anyone who downloads this hit the "thanks" button. If you don't, bad things may happen to your Jaguar ;-) |
Thank you Jim and everyone who worked on this. I still have an old computer hooked up just to access JTIS and I can finally recycle it. I am having some trouble with Media Fire insisting I give them money but I will keep working on the downloads
I appreciate all your work on this Ed |
Additional Screenshots and help with install procedures
Hi
I just posted this information in the XK & XKR 1996-2006 section. Note: the instructions & screenshots in XK sticky tread - post #9 are for the special edited versions - X Type, S Type, XJ, XK. I will start another new thread for the all models archive - to show where the final destination location of the JTIS files and folders should be placed. Look at post# 9 - here is the weblink to the thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...11/#post461216 I decided that this is a better way to distribute the information instead of putting all the instructions and screenshots in all the sticky threads. JTIS21 all models additional info & screenshots update
Hi
I started this new post because it is important to have the JTIS21 files and folders placed in the same final destination folder location. Note: these instructions & screenshots for the JTIS21 all models (not the special edited versions for individual model achive downloads). This will make the install process more standardized and leads to better/easier support resolutions to any future issues that may come up. Here is some more documentation on the install process for the JTIS21 all models (versus the documentation for the special edited versions by model). I just posted this information in the general tech help sticky JTIS21 win7 64 bit install thread. Note: the instructions & screenshots in general tech help sticky tread - post #13 are for the all model version download achives (not for the special edited achives for the individual X Type, S Type, XJ, XK). See the rest of these instructions in post 13 in the this other thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/g...26/#post461414 Jim Lombardi |
New posting dao350.dll taking ownship of DAO folder
1 Attachment(s)
Hi
I just put a new post in the sticky thread JTIS21 win7 64 install method & new archives on the General Tech Help section of the forum. Some of forum members are having a problem with adding the dao350.dll into the DAO folder. The new post gives step by step instructions and screenshots on how to take ownership of the DAO folder. This then allows you to add the dao350.dll file into the DAO folder. Here is the weblink to the new posting (look at post# 15): JTIS21 win7 64 install method & new archives Jim Lombardi |
is there a chance to make it work on mac osx?
|
Hi chupacabra
Forum member guy has installed the JTIS21 software on his mac PC and here is his comments on the install: Thanks for the files. Looking forward to following the manual for a change ;-) I run XP in a virtualbox environment from my mac... and this works flawlessly. Cheers All! __________________ Guy Pensa Also I found this website that has links and information about using virtualbox on the mac osx: Running Windows on Your Mac With VirtualBox | Mac.AppStorm Looks like its been done successfully. Jim Lombardi |
Before finding this thread, I installed the JTIS on my Mac using WineBottler -- had a little trouble at first because I wasn't installing it correctly, but it works great now.

a big thank you to jim for all his hard work on this, it feels like i should be crossing his palm with some silver. i was about to put my jtis disk in the bin before i tried this. once again thank you very much. andrew lowe

Hello.
I installed mine onto a Virtual Machine within the Win 7 64 os. A quick download sorted the nested os. Search your own Help file, (click desktop, then F1) and search for Virtual PC. Top answer shows all the links you need. Doug. |
Hi racingwings
I usually do not recommend installing Vitual Machine on Win7 64 bit operating system because of the large amount of memory and diskspace it uses. Also need to reinstall some of the other applications and printers within the Vitual Machine workspace. A better solution is to use our Win7 64 install procedure here on the forum. Jim Lombardi |
Hi Jim.
Fair point - I cut my install down a good bit though, and I do have other uses for the VM as it helps shift things between Win 7 and Ubuntu. I read your instructions in more detail after your post and they're pretty solid, useful stuff. GL, Doug |
Thanks for the comprehensive instructions for a Win 7 64-bit machine, extremely useful, I couldn't have managed without them. You obviously put a lot of hard work in to it, it's appreciated.
One minor issue: I have Adobe's Creative Suite on the machine, which includes as standard Acrobat Pro, not Reader. Every time I try to access a PDF from within the JTIS21 software, I just receive a message to say the Acrobat Reader is not installed. It isn't, because you can't have two versions of Acrobat on the same machine. I can access the PDFs by navigating to the JTIS folder and viewing them from there using Pro. Any idea of a work around? |
Hi nigelmay
Welcome to the Jaguar Forum. I downloaded free acrobat reader X that made the JTIS software happy. I opened acrobat reader X, then I went to Edit, Then to Preferences, then General catagory and used the select default pdf handler button. It gave a choice of acrobat reader X or Adobe Pro 9. I made Adobe Pro 9 the default. When I am in the JTIS21 software and use the DTC Summaries option - acrobat reader X opens the PDF file. Now when I do PDF file download from the forum it opens with Adobe Pro 9. I noticed that when used a PDF file shortcut that Gus had posted in a recent thread that it opened the PDF file in a new internet explorer tab. I have both Adobe software packages (Adobe Pro ver 9 and Adobe Reader ver X) on my win7 64 bit PC. Jim Lombardi |
Thanks Jim,
I didn't realise that you could have Reader and Pro on the same system, whenever I have upgraded Creative Suite it always says that previous versions of Acrobat will be deleted. I've downloaded Reader XI, but it keeps coming up with a file not found error message, I'll do some more digging. |
In case it's of any help to anyone else, I couldn't get the Acrobat Reader 11 to see the PDFs when I had downloaded the XJ specific JTIS files. I removed everything, downloaded the entire set, burnt it to DVD, now it works like a dream. A very useful resource, thanks for facilitating it Jim.

Update: Solution to your internet browers invalid link errors (getting "This link wasn't well formed") when trying open the dropbox.com using the PDF weblinks I have in this post.
Looks like I had a bad upload to the dropbox.com website (PDF file for JTIS21 install on 32 bit Windows Operating systems (Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 7, XP, and Vista) I fixed the issue by reuploading the PDF file. If you ever get the "This link wasn't well formed" - invalid link error, then you should look at the solution I found on the internet that is in the following PDF file: Attachment 49292 End of Update Here is what you need to know before you download and install the JTIS21 software First you need to determine whether your PC has a 32 bit or 64 bit Operating System. Method to determine Windows XP 32 bit or 64 bit: Look at this JPEG (has instructions/illustrations) Click on the image when the dropbox webpage to get a better view: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0zo00wh83i...20bit%20OS.jpg Method to determine Windows 7 (32 bit or 64 bit Operating System): Look at this JPEG (has instructions/illustrations) Click on the image when the dropbox webpage to get a better view: https://www.dropbox.com/s/khcyplnz98...20bit%20OS.jpg Important step after you download the JTIS21 archive files and after you start the running the 1st archive (exe) file to extract the files in the 3 archives - make sure you put in the C:\JTIS21 as the Destination folder This PDF covers install on a 64 bit Windows 7 Operating System (also the other windows 64 bit OS - Windows 8, Windows 8.1, XP, and Vista): https://www.dropbox.com/s/fe6jkw5py3...bit%20v1.6.pdf If you have windows 8 64 bit you may have to download the microsoft 32 bit help software for windows 8 https://www.dropbox.com/s/0wtvz3ux3s...917607-x64.msu If you have windows 8.1 64 bit you may have to download the microsoft 32 bit help software for windows 8.1 https://www.dropbox.com/s/fehtnmqpc9...917607-x64.msu PDF file for JTIS21 install on 32 bit Windows Operating systems (Windows 8, Windows 7, XP, and Vista): https://www.dropbox.com/s/j6wjvc5esl...%20systems.pdf I put the JTIS archive files up on my dropbox account. I have had no problems with the downloads on the dropbox.com site. When the dropbox webpage opens, just click on the download button and use the run option on the popup. Here are the weblinks to the all models (JTIS21) archives files. Part1.exe is 190 mb (195313 kb) Note it is an exe file - after you download Part1, Part2, and Part3 into the same folder, you will run Part1.exe and it will extract all the files in Part1, Part2 and Part3 https://www.dropbox.com/s/fvdg6rsl63...CD.part1.exe?m Part2.rar is 190 mb (195313 kb) https://www.dropbox.com/s/bwx4uch8m9...CD.part2.rar?m Part3.rar is 58.9 mb (60318 kb) https://www.dropbox.com/s/xk49mq38ch...CD.part3.rar?m Decide where to place the JTIS files after they are extracted (CD or on PC hard drive). This PDF describes both the CD and Hard drive processes: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dt47u5qcx5...structions.pdf Jim Lombardi |
I used Jim Lombardi's drop box account to download CD 3.
I had downloaded the first two on Media Fire and then got error "Access to webpage was denied. You are not authorized to access the webpage." Without Jim's help, I would not have been able to get all 3 CD's. |
I have revised and update all the possible variations of the instructions for the JTIS (downloads, extraction, Operating systems, installation, how to use the software, etc).
Look at post# 19. Jim Lombardi |
Anybody know if this will work with Windows 8? Need to get a new computer.
|
Yes it should work with a windows 8 64 bit PC using the info in this PDF (I do not have a windows 8 PC to test it):
Should be the same installation as windows 7 64 bit (except for Help system software): https://www.dropbox.com/s/fe6jkw5py3...bit%20v1.6.pdf You will have to download and use this Help program for windows 8 in place of the windows 7 version. Big hug to all you guys who made this work. - It is on my windows 8 laptop 64 sys
To anyone who is having troubles - follow the instructions exactly. It took me a while to get ownership of DAO folder, I have copies of DAO350.dll in my c:\> system files, also in the JTIS21 directory, I don't care which file the program uses. Windows 7 screenshots are slightly different so you need to think a bit about syntax. Another group hug for he electronic Parts catalogue, it works a treat, I can now buy from EBAY with confidence |
Did you create a new DAO folder on your C drive (C:\DAO)?
If you did, then I wonder why windows 8 did not give all rights to the C:\DAO folder?? That is why forum member Plums mentioned to me that if you create a new folder then windows operating systems give you full rights to that folder. Jim Lombardi |
Hi Jim,
I was getting error messages, so I searched them on M/S site, which suggested download windows 8.1 --- Not me, I came across a publisher of DAO350.dll, I read his answers to other peoples questions, basically create a DAO directory in "C" operating system, as well as the set up directory, - having done this, I then went to your instructions, windows 8 is slightly different in appearance, but the commands are all there Thanks again, it works perfectly. |
Would this contain information for an 07 XJR? It seems like it only goes up to 2006 :)
|
Your 2007 XJR is a X358 Jaguar model type, the 2004 thru 2006 XJR are X350 model type.
I looked at Jagdocs.com website to see if they offered the Jaguar workshop manual PDF download for the X358 and found out that their manual covers 2004 thru 2009 Jaguar XJ series (X350 and apparently includes X358). Sounds like since the JTIS21 covers 2004 XJ (X350) that maybe the procedures are the same for the 2005 thru 2009 XJ years??? I checked jagbits.com and the same throttle body part number is for 2004 thru 2008. You might just want to purchase the 2004 thru 2009 shop manual PDF file download from Jagdocs.com for $12 (no software installation needed and runs on any PC operating system). Jim Lombardi |
I have to admit I a amazed and thankful for your efforts to get this up and running. I played around for quite a while trying to get it to work on my W7/64bit machine as it was the newest and most powerful.
But In the end I found it was far easier to just pull out an old laptop that was running XP and install Jaguar JTIS, LandRover RAVE, and old version of my Ford s/w for my F150. It also has wifi so I can take it to the car and run Mitchell Pro Demand. If I need to get access on the road I've actually used my iPhone5 as a hotspot for my iPad2 and used jump-desktop to remote in to my XP laptop that is on my toolbox at work to access JTIS. Its slow but it worked. :icon_wink: Honestly though the old XP machine does a fine job of running it since thats all it does and since its portable I can bring it to the car and not worry about anything happening as its essentially a $35 laptop at this point. Again thanks for your efforts |
Windows 7 and other oddities: Anyone having trouble getting DAO350 to register take note, Jim is not kidding about running the cmd.exe as administrator. As all useful things in life I learned the hard way. I thought WTF, I AM the administrator on this machine so went ahead and banged my head against the wall for 1/2 an hour.
As soon as the smart switch got turned on and did it the way JIM SAID, poop through a goose and we're flying. Thanks Jim. |
Can't get it to work!
Been at this way too long... Thought I've followed it to the T. Can't register the DAO. 64 bit Windows 8.1
Thanks for NY HELP! |

Forum member GGG found this "free" software and coming from a Romanian website called EMSA: Information I received by Private Messaging from GGG: register DLL Tool in a link from [Update Note: go to http://www.thewindowsclub.com/register-dll-file-windows instead of the Windows 8 | 7 Tips, Tricks, Help, Support, Downloads, Features and go down to 4th Bold heading on page Emsa Register DLL Freeware - then use: Multipurpose DLL Information & Registration Tool e-systems.ro/register_dll_tool.htm Update Note by Jim Lombardi: I added this JPEG that shows the webpage image and other information that you will need: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...2&d=1413867234 weblink to download page is: Multipurpose DLL Information & Registration Tool e-systems.ro/register_dll_tool.htm End of Jim Lombardi Update Note I'm always dubious about "free" software and coming from a Romanian website didn't increase my confidence! However, I'm just testing this Windows 8.1 laptop and can easily format the disk and reinstall Windows if necessary. EMSA installed DAO350.DLL without any problems. I then completed JTIS setup and it is now installed and working on my laptop. I've now given JTIS and JEPC a good workout on my Windows 8.1 laptop for the last two weeks. They have both proved as reliable as the Windows7, Vista and XP Pro installs I'd used on earlier PC's and laptops. My main concern was the free Romanian DLL Registration Tool but this has had no ill effects. With DAO350.DLL registered, I was then able to uninstall the EMSA tool cleanly through 'Programs and Features'. End of Private Messages from GGG Thanks to GGG for providing the information for workaround on registering DLL in windows 8.1. Jim Lombardi |
I've been trying for the past hour to download these files from MediaFire. Everytime I click the download link, it just spins. Eventually, it prompts me to "repair download". I click that link. It takes me back to the download page again, and same thing happens.
I'm able to download the PDF files fine, but the EXE and RAR files won't download. Does no one have these hosted on a different file sharing site? This is really frustrating. |
Okay, I found Jim's DropBox hosted files in a reply to this thread. Jim, please update your main post to include these. MediaFire is complete crap. Dropbox is much much better.
Also, why don't these forums offer a means of editing one's post? |
I tried and tried to get the JTIS working under Windows 7 64 bit, and failed.
Then I bought a Windows XP laptop on Ebay for $100. JTIS worked right away, and now I can take the laptop out to the garage / drive when working on the Jag. Works for me! |

Just need to look at post#19 for detailed instructions of installing JTIS21 software. It covers all versions of windows operating systems (windows 7 64 bit, windows 7 32 bit, windows xp 64 bit, window xp 32 bit, windows 8 and windows 8.1). The instructions have step by step information with screen shots of each step. Large number of our forum members have successfully completed the installation of windows 7 64 bit PCs. Jim Lombardi |
Loaded JTIS for 64 bit Win 7 but failed to open some file views
Thanks for the information.
However I have encountered a problem after following all the steps in Professors Plums PDF guide to load JTIS into a 64 bit OS with Windows 7 Home Premium, which I hope you can help me with, please. I think it is a paths / pointer issue or failure to run the second setup.exe file in Disk 1 folder. When click Start|All programmes | JTIS viewer opens OK. When I click on top icons for Service and select series XJ and year from the pop up, its works fine. However when I click on DTC icon or other icons and frlom the pop up select XJ series and year it shows codes B,C, P and U and the underlying menu options for ABS system shown in blue font on the LHS of the viewer as expected, but when I then try to select one of them it fails to open it up and instead jumps to opening Adobi Reader with a pop up error message 'File cannot be found'. How to resolve Should I delete all and try to re-install Should I look at startup.txt file or JTTIS.INI contents to see if they are correct Can you advise me please One thing I did not manage to run successfully was the DAO35\Disk \Setup.exe 47kb file. Instead I got a pop error message file is incompatible with version of windows in use. Do I need to run the Disk 1\Setup.exe file. I have tied Trouble shooting the files compatibility setting in its properties but with it still would not open even as administrator. Note PC has already got several MS Windows Service packs, including XP (Service pack 3), XP (Service pack 2), Windows 7, vista, Windows NT, etc. Do you think I should try to locate and load another MS Service pack from the MS site that suits this Setup.exe file. Could you advise which one. Just to recap I had earlier followed all the JTIS new steps, which included: Removed old JTIS for XJ including JJTIS.INI files using Revo Unistaller Pro Downloaded JTIS 21 parts 1, 2 and 3 onto PC 64 bit OS with Windows 7 Home Premium. (Had to Cancel saving to a CD for the end of part 1 upload as I did have a spare CD or USB stick with this amount of GBs to hand, but I checked all files got loaded on library folder which I call JTIS 21). Why isn't the RAR option available for pert 1 like it is for part 2 and 3?. Download JTTIS installation instructions PDFs Download DAO350.Dll to C:\.....DOA directory after giving myself ownership rights over Trusted installer, i.e Microsoft. Registered DOA350 file via Command prompt CMD.exe to Windows Registry. Ran XP Fit file from JTIS 21 library folder Also as an extra step I added XP virtual machine option from the MS site and created new C system folder in case this helped in using this 32 bit FILE version of JTIS. Uploaded MS help file and saved in JTIS 21 library folder Read JTIS instructions Readme.txt and ran main SETUP.EXE from JTIS 21 directory, it when through ok and I selected 'rebooted PC'. Restarted PC and clicked on Start|All programmes|JTIS to open up the viewer which worked to an extent, but not all, DTC icon opened up, gave pop up memu of XJ series and car year option (so think went into GBnonv8DTC or DTCstartup files held in the Data|DNCEN subfolder) but then stopped finding the underlying PDF sub files in that same folder such as the relevant car details. Do you think this paths pointer problem is fixable by looking at what entered in the Start up txt or JJTIS.ini file or do you think I need to do a full re-install. Any advice |
Yes, I had a similar problem. That's the point where I gave up and bought the XP laptop. It would still be nice to get it working on the desktop, though.
|
Hi Ken
The second setup.exe is run in the JTIS21 folder - right click to run as administator (to run it and install the software.) You are not supposed to run a second setup.exe from Disk1 (that setup.exe is for windows XP 32 bit operating system). Jim Lombardi |
