I am having an intermittent problem with the power door lock on the driver's door on a 99 XJ8 short wheelbase. 150,00 miles on the car. When it happens, you shut off the car and when trying to open the driver's door, it will not unlock. If you try to pull up the manual lock, it locks again.


I have tried turning the key on and using the power lock switch. The other three doors will work, but not the driver door. After several tries, I can get the door to open with the handle and the door unlocks.


Then, a few days or a couple of weeks of normal operation before it happens again.


Any thoughts on where to start?

 

When this happened again today, I tried reaching across and opening the Passenger door (right side), which unlocked all but the driver's door.






After thinking about all the jokes about being locked inside a car with the windows down, I put the window down and inserted the key in the driver's door handle and cycled the door locks back and forth a couple of times and the door unlocked. I have also noticed that there is a one or two second delay when pulling on the inside door handle and the door unlocking with the key turned off. Any thoughts on where to start with this?

 

could be stretched cable. My cable I believe just broke. I have to roll the window down to open the door. It will lock and unlock but when I pull on the inside handle there is zero tension which leads me to believe my cable is gone.
