drivers seat air bag
hi all Merry Christmas
2000 xj8 I am having a air bag light come on after a couple of miles. have narrowed it down to drivers seat. my question is how to take the back panel off it has the picnic tray is there any other screws apart from the two on the bottom. I have tried to pry it off not moving. I do not want to break anything thanks in advance

As far as the back coming off, remove the 4 screws for the picnic tray and pop it off. But there's nothing in there except the headrest drive. I think what you want is the controls under the seat. In that case remove the 4 rail nuts, run the backrest forward and pick up the seat and lean it into the back seat for the controls.

I own 3 xj8's so I changed drivers seat from one car to the other. there are 4 bolts that hold the seat in place so its a quick change over

Ok, so you swapped the seats and it didn't resolve the issue? Is that what lead you to the steering wheel airbag?
I swapped seat modules, left to right, to see if it helped. It did not.
Thanks for the help!

As you changed over the modules you now know they are working, so its not them. why are you looking at the steering wheel air bag now. if its that then you need to change the clockspring, I change the drives seat air bag. best way to do this is to take seat out take picnic tray off in the top left corner of the seat is the air bag which is held in place with 2 nuts. you will have to remove a couple of hog rings that keep the seat leather in place from the rear only take off left side then you can reach in and remove air bag which is plugged into the seat harness. save hog ring so you can reuse them. make sure you disconnect earth lead to battery first and give it 10 - 15 minuets before working on air bag to reinstall follow same procedure use to remove it let me know how you make out
