Talking Driver's seat and rear door lock ...

Most honourable gentlemen,

as some of you may know I am the happy owner of a 2001, 3.2, X308 (XJ8), french registered, left-hand drive.

My driver's seat (port side) is now well-worn (out). Passenger seat is still in very good condition.

If I found a right-hand drive passenger seat, I think chances are that it might be in very good condition still.

Question # 1: could I easily swap a good condition right-hand drive passenger seat for my worn left-hand drive driver's seat ? Where could I find one at a reasonable price ?

Question # 2: right-hand side (starboard) rear door lock: some time ago I pulled the handle to open that (seldom used) door and *SNAP*. Something broke, obviously. This was, as to be expected, followed by the uttering of a series of unprintable words that relieved my frustration but did not repair the door lock.

Mind you, that door still perfectly opens from the inside. Has anyone any experience in tackling this problem ? Any idea of what might have broken off ?

Thanking you in advance, gentlemen, I remain, your most obedient servant,

Takeo.

Love your use of the written language...

As for #1, a very common question indeed. You can do a search and receive many threads to review. My recommendation is to take it to an upholster and see what they may offer. It is what I wound up doing for repair of both seat bases that were splitting. It was quite reasonable with a guarantee, a quarter the cost of a complete replacement and they dyed the whole interior (including steering wheel) to match. Was done 4 yrs ago, still looks great. But, finding a good used one is quicker, though going from Starboard to Port, your seat controls will be on opposite sides.
#2 This snap you speak of...if it still works, how do you know its broken? You state the inboard handle works, ..what of the outboard? Perhaps the latch was just bound from lack of use and broke free and may only need some lubrication fluid?
