Default Factory microphone hack?

I didn't want to hijack an ongoing thread called XJ 308 microphone / phone, but I have a related question. I have an original factory microphone, and I would like to use it with my aftermarket Alpine head unit. The Alpine came with its own microphone, which I carefully plumbed up to the overhead console so that the cord is completely hidden. The Alpine mic is clipped onto the edge of the overhead console, and it doesn't look terrible, but the factory mic would look much better. It would be cool if I could just cut the cords and splice the OEM mic to the Alpine cord, which has a mini headphone jack on the other end and is plugged into the head unit.

Does anyone know if you can splice the mini headphone jack onto the Jag microphone cord? I don't know much about microphones at all.

Do not cut and splice. Open your Alpine mic and then open your Jaguar mic, just swap the guts from one to the other and it will look perfect and original.
