I've recently noticed that when starting with the engine is cold the gear engages from park to reverse quite abruptly. Also, I there is a slight whining noise at about 70 kph from the back.of the car. Does anyone have ideas about what is happening? How easy is it to check both transmission and rear differential fluid levels? Thanks in advance

 

Forgot to mention, the issues are with the XJ8....
