Firstly thanks for putting together a grate forum, im sorry my first post will be one with a issue instead of better news.

I have a 1997 XJ8 3.2 V8 I have only had the car for a month and have done very little driving in it. The other day after a brisk first run up the motorway the Jag desired to leave a long trail of blue smoke and gearbox oil

I have had some one out to look at it and they have advised that the oil is coming from the top of the gearbox out of the breather! :S

He has checked oil cooler pipes and is sure that this is the location of the spill, its then running off the top of the gearbox, down the sides and on to the exhaust causing the smoke.

Can any one tell me why it would dump gearbox oil out of the breather?

The fluid was changed about two years ago but I suspect the car has done little mileage since then.
