Got raped at the dealership...
I looked at JTIS, and its not comprehensive enough. I want the shop manual that the dealerships have.
JTIS get you somewhere on some things, you've to search around the area you plan to work on first, on the disc.
it supposed to, just not on high speed. Tis a function of not only the cooling system operation but ac as well. The ecu will keep the fans running for what it sees in both systems
Communication is everything. A customer can always ask "why" if uncertain.
OTOH.......
IMHO, if a customer leaves a repair shop with an estimate and doesn't know WHY a particular part and/or repair is being suggested then whoever wrote the estimate didn't do a very good job.
Baycliff left the shop with the impression that an unneccesary $850 repair was being suggested. Not good for business ! If we assume, for the sake of conversation, that Brutal is correct in his long distance assesment and a new headlamps IS needed, then the dealership shot themselves in the foot, big time. Not only did they not sell the job but the customer now feels suspicious about their recommendations. Lose-lose for the dealer.
In princemarko's case I wonder if anyone at the dealership showed or explained the depth and breadth of the labor involved. If they had then maybe, just maybe, marko might not be feeling like he got "raped". A $4400 bill is gonna hurt no matter how you slice it. But to pay $4400 AND think you got raped is twice as bad.
Cheers

I wanted a Jag certified tech to go over it for their two cents worth. I had made it clear that David was going to check out the problems and make the repairs they said it needed, so the S.M. just rattled off a list. Their parts department might have made some money that day, but since he didn't explain the repairs needed, they lost sales. They lost my confidence years ago when I bought my Honda from their Honda division, but this is the only Jag dealership in the area.
My fans never used to stay on after I switched the car off. And that radiator fan spins full blast.
There is a fan that runs when I turn mine off, but it runs for less than five seconds and stops. There is a little fan behind the dash that's supposed to run, though. It makes a buzzing sound.
As for repairs to the tune of close to $5000., I might want a second opinion before authorizing repairs. Being a woman, before I was married I was ripped off for everything from paying for parts that were never replaced or didn't even need to be replaced, to being subjected to breakdown scare tactics. So, I'm a skeptic.
I hope you get everything repaired. Good wishes.

then you have an issue, start the car and turn on the ac. Both fans must be running at low speed. be sure cause with 1 out the car will run hot. If thats ok, you have an issue with either ac pressure switch, system, coolant temp sensor and new t stat
On you head lights, maybe they properly checked them. I pull the high beam cover off and grab the high beam bulb connector and see if the assembly moves/flops around. Obviously it can still be broken and level. kinda like "I dont need an alignment cause my car drives straight" But theres steel sticking out on the inside edge from wear. Just have your X check it, it takes 30 seconds. And if theyre secure, then is 1 cluody, some people think you have to replace to fix cluody lights, but you really need them sanded down to get to virgin plastic then increase sand paper grit finer and finer then polish. We have a company that comes around to dealer (husband and wife team.) They do this and they look like new for years again, unlike kits that last a short period of time
Thank you, Brutal. I'll get David to check that light out further. The plastic is a little foggy. At first I thought there was condensation inside the plastic cover but I read a post somewhere that described the sanding and polishing, and showed pictures of the job in stages. I'll get that done too. Maybe I'll do it with David's oversight to be safe.
I'd like to be able to do some easy things myself; I think it would be fun. I'm not afraid of getting my hands dirty; I'm just afraid of screwing up something. I already bought a throttle pedal sensor and replaced it when it didn't need to be replaced because I got the part name confused.
I can't remember the name of the little buzzing fan. A guy at work who used to own MGs told me about electrical problems in Jags after I bought the car and then I wondered for a bit if I'd have an electrical fire if the buzzing wasn't fixed. I asked about it when I bought some sensor that had to be replaced; a parts guy at the dealership said it will run for about 45 minutes after you open the driver door and it's normal. He said it keeps humidity out of the air conditioner. Well, ok, I live on the Atlantic Ocean and it's pretty darned humid, so I accepted that. I swear, all these little electronic gadgets are going to drive me crazy. I'm not sure what little grill you're talking about. I'll ask David to look at that too.
Some of the people at the dealership have been helpful. When I bought the car, I was told that the next 10,000 mile check up involved simple stuff and I could save myself the $300 dealership cost by having a mechanic go down a checklist that they gave me. The level of help varies depending on who you talk to there.
I appreciate your help!

or will be soon. Poor chap - I empathize with you. Sounds more like date rape than the forcible variety, though. Started out as an innocent and consensual relationship, that went horribly bad...

Here's the thing..
All the parts that were needed are wear and tear on normal cars after 100k... I realize that.
It just SUCKS to have to do this all in one swoop.
For $6000 that i've spent on this car to fix these issues, I should be driving a Mercedes CL65...
But at least I got to drive a 2011 Jaguar XF for 2 weeks now.... but I'll tell you guys this, the X308 Jaguar XJR are still far prettier cars. The XF's are a joke.

Wow that is a ton of money. I had all cooling hoses replaced, even the dreadful 2 that tightly fit under the supercharger, both valve cover gaskets, oil pan gasket and transmission pan gasket.... a whopping $1,200 TOTAL and it only took my mech a full day and a half. He had the intake and supercharger out in less than 2 hours. The great part is he only charges me for time and parts... couldn't care less what the book says. If you're thinking he does shoddy work, that work was done 80,000 miles ago and she still purrs like she was new.
tech, sounds like a gem of a mechanic. If he's still in business, and you're willing to share
, be sure to post up his information in the Regional section of the forum, members are always looking for competent and affordable independent shops. Word of mouth is still the best marketing out there.
