Default Grab handle chrome screw cover

I apologize. I posted this in the wrong place before. (I'm new. Forgive me.)

I have a 2002 XJ8 Vanden Plas and one of the chrome screw covers for a grab handle is missing. It's the only thing that keeps the car from being perfect. Anyone know where I can find one?

I think dealer is your best bet in this case. You can check eBay but I doubt that someone would break a set just to sell one...

You may be right but I'm sure the price will be higher than it has to be. Very frustrating that there aren't places you can visit on the web with little pieces like this. Perhaps it's not profitable enough.

Compare price from the dealer with what's available used to see what makes more sense. Maybe you can get whole set used and keep some as spares.

Went by the dealership today and got a quote to order one (1) screw cap. $14! The UK source from Joe looks like exactly what I need but I fear the postage to TN may drive the cost up to the point that it doesn't make sense.

I checked the ebay site: looks like two caps are 3 british pounds and another 3 to ship. 6 pounds is about $11-$12. Basically, ordering from UK you'll be getting 2 for the price of one. Plus you'll avoid sales tax. Since we are talking about minor $, you need to decide which feels more comfortable for you.

Keep in mind that just because the market prices on our cars are somewhere around our ankles, when it comes to parts you are still buying them for a Jaguar from a Jaguar dealer. If you need a used source for parts, check car-part.com This site is widely used by the collision repair industry to source all sorts of parts - body, mechanical and trim.

Thanks, Tirefriar. Yeah, I figured it wasn't going to be cheap to keep this car up. I've been maintaining a Lexus but I've always found the Lexus parts to be fair. The Jag dealership was a different story. Right after I bought the car I took it into the dealership for a rear tire hum. It was $126 just to look at the car! They determined that I needed driver's side rear wheel bearings at $820. I found a shop that specializes in European cars and has a certified Jag mechanic. It cost me $350, less than half what the Jag dealership was going to charge. I don't mind paying a little more for the peace of mind of having a Jag dealership do the work but over twice the price is rather ridiculous. Like $14 for a little plastic piece.

Of course it's always best to find indie certified tech to work on your car. The $126 the jag dealer charged to look at the car is actually a common practice among all dealers AND indie shops. It's usually 1 hr charge to diagnose the problem. Local Honda dealer charges $110.

Just FYI automotive trim pieces are never cheap. I had to pay $20 for a Saturn visor retainer that I was too lazy to go to pick a part to get. That was plastic too ))). BTW jaguar jon2 has got a deal for you. Members like him make this a great place to visit

Thanks, Jaguar Jon02. I just ordered two of them from the UK. Ended up being about $11 with postage for both. Less than the Jag dealership was going to charge me for one. I really appreciate the offer. If these don't fit for some reason I'll take you up on that offer.

So I was vacuuming out the Jag when I heard a clunk. I checked the holding tank of the shop vac and what did I find? You guessed it. The missing screw cover for the grab handle. I must've looked under those seats at least a half-dozen times. The two I ordered came in the mail. Interesting part is the ones already on the car are plastic but the ones I got in the mail are metal. Just thought I'd pass that along. Don't know what year they changed over to plastic but the plastic ones are shinier than the real metal ones. Maybe that's why they did it.

In Memphis and Nashville there seems to be an abundance of these, if I were to send you my address, would you send me one?

I will reimburse the postage.

So it happens that I was detailing my VDP about 30 minutes ago (I mean finished 30 min ago, you can not detail anything in 30 min, if you are as OCD as I am!). And as I was wiping my grab handle with some leather conditioner, the ashtray on the back door popped open. And what did I see? The metal, chrome, grab handle trim! One piece. I picked up a handfull (for free), last time I was on the junk yard (I did not steal them, I purchased $500 worth of stuff, and asked the owner if I can have these, he also gave me a full set of center caps!). I was missing one trim piece, and I have no idea what happened to the rest of them, but ONE of the extras was stashed in the ashtray for the future, as a spare. Since I moved in the meantime, I am sure the rest of them are somewhere in the barn, but as of now, I have ONE available.

When I found it in the ashtray (I completely forgot that I put it there!), I looked it over, and put it right back.

So,....if one of you needs it, you can have it for FREE. "Pay it forward". First one to PM me with the address, get's it, and I will ship it on Monday. And I don't need you to send me the postage either, I don't need $2.70 that bad.

Sorry J. Didn't mail the thing on Monday. I had a family emergency, and was out of state until last night. It was mailed today to the address you provided.
