Headlight issue 99 XJR
Hello, I'm new and my name is Michael.
I recently purchased a 1999 XJR and I'm having some weird electrical problem. I know its hard to diagnose over the web, but here it goes. At night, when I turn my head lights on they don't work, but when I press on the brake pedal the head lights turn on. As soon as I remove my foot off the pedal the headlights turn off. The high beams work fine, but I don't have lights at night to see unless I keep my foot on the brake pedal. Is there a short for power some where in the head light wiring where its only powered when the brake pedal is 56pressed? I took the car to a "Jaguar" mechanic and he said he doesn't want to mess with my car which really frustrates me because the dealer will most likely charge me more then what the car is worth.
Thank you. any help would be nice.

That is strange. Brake lights work fine ? No messages on the dash ? Do you have your lights on on the stalk ? Stalk works fine ? Could something be getting grounded when you press on the brake (just a general question) ?
Hi Michael, welcome to the forum.
Probably worth checking the fuses number 6 and 8 in the large fuse box in the engine compartment. Also the relay, middle of the row of 5, brown colour.
