Just got the upper tensioners replaced. Turns out they were the originals and they were absolutely destroyed as one can imagine with the car having 97k on the clock. So looks like I got them done just in time! I will send pictures of the destroyed tensioners within a few days. The engine is a bit loud still, around how long does it take for the new tensioners to quiet down? Thanks again for all the insight got the job done for about 300$ for anyone else looking to do the same.

I hate to tell you this but, there’s no break in period for tensioners. It’s the rod, piston and rings, main & camshafts that would need broken in period if it was a new engine.

Actually the engine is now sounding smooth as butter just needed like 30 minutes of running.
