Default How full does the recovery tank need to be?

At the shop right now and mine is empty. Going to inject some in there but I would assume it needs to be half full or have some room in it. THANKS!

Are you talking about the clear tank behind the drivers side (U.S. car) fog light? Or the black expansion tank inside the engine bay that has a cap on it?

Atmospheric tank under the car. I just went ahead and filled it until it started pouring out. I think those things have a hole on the side of it.

It should be empty. It takes boil over from the expansion tank. If it is full, you are overheating.

That is close, but not completely true.

The recovery tank (if we talk about the one of the coolant system in the front fender) works on suction.
If the cooling system heats up and expands, coolant is pushed into this tank, then later, if the engine coos down, coolant is sucked back through the pipe into this tank.

As there is some space between the bottom of the tank and the pipe, not everything can be sucked back (presuming the first time the tank was empty - hence your question).

So if you go from scratch, add an 1/2 inch of coolant into it, or watch your coolant levels very carefully the first couple of rides, and fill up where needed.
