Jaguar emblem/badges R&R?
One of the only flaws on my recently acquired 2002 XJR is the exterior badging (like the "XJR" logo on the trunk) are damaged. Sun or time has eaten at them a bit, fading the surface and even pitting it slightly. It's the case with all of these badges on the back and side of the car (including the trunk release button, side jaguar emblems, and rear JAGUAR/XJR emblems).
Is there a method to R&R these things or do I need to get myself a new set? If I need to get a new set, does anyone have a recommendation of where I could acquire these things nice and new?

In looking closer at the one I linked to, it appears to be cosmetically damaged, so best to pass on that one, but I have seen them come up in good shape for as little as $15.
You might want to use their search function to have ebay email you when a new one is listed.

I used elbow grease and car wax/polish and got mine looking a lot better.

does the light cleaning kits that take away oxidization do the same thing on the badges? i dont know...but if the badges are oxidized, id imagine you could do them the same time you do the lights if you needed.

Yeah, I noticed the damage on that ebay emblem. There's a new one out of europe for something like 30$, I'll keep an eye out for a nice set and ****** them up. It's not super-critical right now, I just want everything to be as close to perfect as possible.
Maybe I'll mess with them and see if I can't come up with a way to clean them up. The exterior coat is damaged, it might be possible to buff them down somehow (as you say poodle, maybe with a light cleaning kit). The only real fear I have there is damaging the chrome surrounds... I'll have to look at it and see if there might be an easy way to clean em up without tearing up the chrome (or a way to pull the interior badging out of the exterior housing).

Here is where I got mine:
Genuine New Jaguar XJR Rear Badge Trunk Emblem for XJ R 1997 2003 Saloon Sedan | eBay
Brand New, OEM, fast service and shipping.
The toughest part was getting the old ones off. Take your time and a little heat will help.

When I did mine I rang my local Jaguar parts dept., been dealing with the two guys there for decades....I'd never heard Jim swear until that day! Expensive.
I had mine made up by a specialist after buying new standard XJ chrome surrounds. The problem in the UK at least is frost damage, water getting in behind the badge and separating the foil backing. Now the car's are old the parts like above are cheap, buy it and be happy.
A tip, get 'tar and glue remover' in liquid spray, liberal doses around the badge, with a plastic squeegee to lift the edges helping the fluid. A hairdryer helps too if really stuck on. Masking tape to protect the paint.
The oem badges come with 3M double sided trim tape to it's just a case of peel, align and press home making sure the surface is spotless and it'll be on for good.

Thanks for the tips all. And Sean... That is a beautiful car...
I was so damn tempted to go to manhattan beach and pick up the XJR-100 that was for sale over the last few months. Didn't want to shell out 15k, but I came >< that close to just biting the bullet.
I have an unhealthy love of the black on black xjr-100. Maybe next time I replace this thing, if I can still find one
