Minor fixes: DIY help
Hiya,
Hoping I an get some pointers from fellow members and get these minor items sorted on my 01 XJR without having to pay a mechanic.
1) The rearview mirror on the driver's side door wobbles a lot whilst driving. Looking for a fix vs. having to replace the entire assembly.
2) Also, noticed that the leaper on the bonnet was dancing rigorously on the highway. Stopped and had a peek and it also quite wobbly. Before I go playing with this would appreciate any tips from folks who have encountered this so I can get it sorted myself.
Many thanks in advance for your help with this.

Hi,
There are three main possibilities which are worth to be checked, if the mirror casing itself is firmly attached to the door
1.) Is the mounting plate of the mirror glass properly locked in place with the mirror motor? Inner = door-facing part of the mounting plate slides into a retaining collar at the motor, then two clips of the mounting plate (outwards facing) snap in to the mirror motor.
2.) Is the mirror motor itself properly seated and bolted to the mirror casing? (three small philipps screws)
3.) if all is seated and locked in place properly, then you might need a new mirror motor, since the gear racks of the mirror's adjustment mechanism wear and therefore develop some wear which results in a wobbling mirror glass. That's the case for my passenger side mirror.
Cheers, Alexander

Is it the whole mirror or glass that wobbles? You can just about shimmy the trim triangle out or remove the door card to tighten the bolt that holds it to the door.
With the leaper, have a look if there's visible nuts you can tighten it up with the bonnet raised.
