Well, Some of you wood lovers are going to hate the next mod.. but the car didn't come with crack free wood, and I had this laying around from my last project car... it's 3M Scotchprint 1080 Glossy Series Carbon Fiber... the way this reflects light is amazing and I absolutely love the look... the car having all round trim was fun let me tell ya! haha. Has an x308 even been wrapped before? :)
Enough talking.. let's dig in... Attachment 160924 Attachment 160925 Attachment 160926 Attachment 160927 I will probably add some Airden chrome rings here to complete the look, match the door panel speaker trim and shifter trim... :) Attachment 160928 Attachment 160929 Attachment 160930 Attachment 160931 Will be replacing the wood knob with a black leather one... Attachment 160932 Attachment 160933 Attachment 160934 Attachment 160935 Attachment 160936 Attachment 160937 I'm in love already... Gotta send out the rear view mirror to get fixed, then eventually get to the headliner and re-do that too. Until next time...... |
You are lucky enough to have a black interior. So why not?
It certainly "refreshes" the car with an updated look and that was the theme all along. ;) |
personally not a fan, but again what say do i have? its your car so your opinion is what counts, again lucky you have black interior, keep up the work, look forward to more updates
|
Hmmm... is that rust at the trailing bottom corner of the left rear door?
How about doing all of the window frames and glass surrounds in carbon? |
I like that carbon because this 3M carbon feels and looks like the real thing..
Now your pimping it up 20" BBS Montreal wheels and some rare -30mm lowering springs that you can buy in the UK would complete the tuned look you have in the interior . In the UK there is a seller on Ebay that sells perfect chrome instrument rings and rings for the switches wich gives it a bit of a Bentley feeling... |
You are correct on the lower rear door, it will get fixed soon... that's the only spot I've seen on the whole car minus the bolts I fixed in the engine bay.
I have some plans for the exterior, the carbon on all that is a bit too overboard for me as I like to keep things looking OEM as much as I can... so I'm thinking just wrapping around the doors in the gloss or matte black... I'm gonna borrow a bunch of stuff from the look of the 100 :) DJ-Roy- I do want to eventually get some 20" on the car but I'm in love with the 5 star Detroit version.. I think it would look great on this car along with some Brembo's behind them. I found the instrument rings on ebay.co.uk last night and ill give those a shot, I really think it will complete the carbon look, tie everything in and keep it classy. It will look even better when the new wheel and shift knob is in it... Thanks again guys! |
That's giant pile of win right there! The carbon fiber looks fantastic.
|
I don't usually support de-wooding but that looks awesome! there was a carbon-fiber steering wheel in the classifieds a while back. the guy had taken a wood-insert wheel and had the wood replaced with carbon fiber.
|
Thanks guys, as soon as the spare steering wheel shows up it's being sent out to get recovered in some new material :)

bearing tool
looks good

This is a great way to add a tuner look to cars with cracked and faded wood, only really works on black interior cars though.
Are you going to use a darker headliner color? |

It's everything I thought it would be and more... 20" Detroits on a XJR :)
Attachment 160507 Attachment 160508 Sorry about the dirty car, full detail correction is in cue. :) |

@ XJR P
I was starting to cringe when I read "3M Carbon fiber", but then I scrolled down and saw the finished product..... It's pretty amazing. How do you put the trim on? do you use a heat gun ? The wheels are great....... one more thing you should think about is the Mina Gallery lower mesh grille...... it really lifts the front of the car....... I think that was one of my first mods to my old '00 XJR...... https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/m...rille-1566.jpg |
I've been debating that lower grill... just don't know yet.. kinda rather have a big H/E showing and stuffed in there :)
|
what's the width of the back rim/tire - any clearance issues? I've debated with 20's, just don't know, thinking of going 20 on the rear only to give a bit of rake...
|
It's a 20x10 with 285/30.. about an inch of clearance inside and the outer tire is about 1/2 inch (maybe a little less) directly below the lip of the quarter panel... so if it was tucking tire they would need rolled...(it's a big lip!) and it would be perfect after doing so and you wouldn't need spacers at all... maybe even get away with a 295 tire to be completely flush.
