Default my 1998 xj8-L oddities and issues

hey there.
don't hate me for all these questions. i just wanted to condense all of my issues with this car in one post:

1. my car has the rear end whine. very loud. can i rebuild it like any other rear end????

2. the keyless entry makes the seat go into midget position! why???

3. the transmission sometimes slips at take off? engine revs a little then it barks the tire and takes off. can this be the rear end? seems like a torque converter issue?

4. the headliner is falling. do i order a new one or go to an upholstery shop? whats your advise and experience?

5. the cupholder is busted! arent they all???? should i pay $200? or glue it somehow?

6. the 12 volt cigarette lighter does not work. is there something weird about his since it is a jag? or should i just yank it out and check with a tester? not sure how to pop this out of console.

7. the steering wheel cruise buttons do no light up in dark. should they?

8. it doesnt seem to accelerate all the way..when i mash the gas...it doesnt respond like it should. accelerator pedal doesnt seem to have much travel. is this normal? it just doesnt want to kick in and go.....is this a result of the coolant sensor making the engine limp around? i havent yet understood the jaguar way of things....

9. low coolant light comes on. no matter how full!??

10. traction control faulty light or something comes on??? i cannot remember the phrase that it says on the dash. but this problem is occasional.

11. i see a red and amber light sometimes. what in the world is it?

sorry i went on a rant here! the jaguar seems to very complex.
i apologize.
any help appreciated.

I'd suggest a small investment in an OBD reader and a new battery.

Diff's can be rebuilt - use oem (timkin bearings)

Cup holders can be fixed, use the search function for how to's.

Cigar lighter is possibly a fuse blown - download the owners manual for fuse locations.

Steering wheel buttons never lit. On the cruise there's a little bulb that can be replaced, switch needs taking to bits.

Seat memory needs resetting to your favored position.

Gearbox issues indicate a service is required, if problems persist or get worse, it's probably an A drum failure - do a search.

Headliner can be fixed, many have it recovered, again search the forum for how to's...

The throttle pedal cable located next to the throttle body sounds like it has play and can be adjusted, there's plenty of info on this in the forum, again, use the search.

Low coolant is a sticking float in the header tank, moving it up and down on it's guide will free off any crud holding it in the low position.

The TRAC warning usually signals a weak battery (if it shows on startup) if it comes on after starting then it's either a dirty wheel speed sensor or ABS pump solder fault, again searching will pull up all the info you need.

The warning lights, this is where an OBD reader comes in, otherwise it's guess work. We need to see what codes are posted in the car's system and then post the remedies.

Welcome to the Jag Forums. You will not have full access to all the information available until you have 10 posts and 3 days of membership, if I remember correctly.

Default thanks for the help.

awesome! thanks so much for the help guys!

i did do a search.
i am just so confused on whether what i am searching for is really what is wrong with mine.
these jaguars are complex little beasts!

the materials and build quality seems nice. but the glitches..wow.

wouldnt it be so nice for jaguar to build less glitchy cars....i mean dang..they are a high end car. why????
