This was a challenge even to load. None of the points were the same as an XJ8. So I had to tie it down all different. This one was $1500 with 60,000 miles on it you guessed it broken timing chain on the secondaries driver side I’ve done it on the next GEN will see if I can do it on an XK8

 

Looks like a nice car. Hopefully there is no major engine damage. The engine in the x308 and the x100 are the same. Sometimes there is less room to work. Post on the x100 site and if you have any issues or questions you can get help there. Like this site there are a bunch of great members willing to help.

 

I love the coupes. The only unobtainium is the third brake light. The only X100 I would buy is a coupe.

 

Looks like a good buy. Did the silver paint hold up ok on the roof and hood ok?

 

I prefer the convertibles. At 6'-3" it is the easiest Jag for me to get into with the top down.

This blue one is the same year ? It has 160,000 miles on it it had good maintenance it just became an accordion. This might be an option to do an engine swap but I will check out the other one first. What I do know is it has a completely missing broken timing chain on the XK8 the paint held up really good must’ve been under a cover or in a garage. The engine bonnet is it 100% It is just in the open position now when the photo was taken interior is very nice it’s got those extremely wide 18 inch wheels on it.

 

If the secondary chain broke the money is on you have pistons that hit the valves. What year is the xk8 a d the xj8 with the engine?

Good. They are both AJ27s so it should be plug and play.

 

broken chain doesn’t mean always mean bent valves, 50 50 usually. if broke at high revs it probably is done

slap the ebay quickfit chain on and hope for the best 👍

Take the cams off on that side and do a leakdown test. You can also look at the valve buckets. If there are some that are lower than the rest with the cam off you probably have a bent valve.

 

So I took your advice and pulled both the camshaft off the driver side now all the valves are closed and I did a loop leak down test . 1,2,4, hold pressure but number three Air blows right by.

More than likely a bent valve. When the chain broke the valves stop moving and there is no position where there is at least one valve that is not down. Since the engine was still running, even for a short time, one of the pistons hit the valves that were down.

You can pull the head. It might be a simple valve job or I had one that the valve broke and was embedded in the head.

Sorry to see that. But something like this is usally the result of tensioner failure. You best bet is probably to put your otber engine in the car. I think you still got a good deal if the xk8 is in good condition.

I’ve been thinking about it this afternoon what to do when I go back and look at the cylinder head it looks like the other valve is in bad shape not closing all the way bent and then there’s a gouge in the head it doesn’t look so good. The Blue xj8 looks like it’s going to be the donor motor yeah I’ll start asking questions on that other form. No it was still a good buy car with only 60,000 miles in really good shape the owner had taken it to a mechanic who put a scope down cylinder number three and could see this when I look down there I could not see it in my little endoscope. So the accordion what I call the blue car I believe the motor still good after the collision the energy seem to win over the top it still runs good no smoking no anything no noise yeah I just have to see if they’re compatible what I asked to be switched thanks all
