Default New Member here! New Owner with Q's

Hello all,
Just bought a beautiful 2000 XJ8 VDP 4.0 Supercharged
bought as is and it needs
the cd cassette - not entire unit
nav dvd

Wher can I find them, EBAY?
And how can I know if the systems work before buying?

Also it has a 10 yr old motorola phone. Anyway to get my Iphone to work with internal system?
Thanks
Steve

Are you speaking of the cartridge that holds the cd's ? I was able to get an extra one for my 95 -- on eBay. The system is Jaguar specific -- but the cartridge was a generic for that manufacturer -- you just have to find out who made the system in your car. Someone on the forum will know.

I would think ebay or a wrecker for the Nav DVD -- although the system is not very good and I never use it.

You can always go and ask your local dealer if they will let you try a set before you buy the cartridge -- Some are helpful and they may just have one sitting around. I have been surprised sometimes.

The phone is analog and is no longer supported.

I have never seen a good work around for an mp3 player in a car that old.

You can remove the phone and wire a bluetooth hands free kit (like a motorola T-605) into the existing phone connector (under the center console bin). This will send the phone audio thru the front speakers and mute the stereo and display 'PHONE' on the head unit when the phone is in use. It works fantastically well.

Search for 'bluetooth' here in the forum for some great how-to's.

Default Thanks! Blue Tooth convresion Q.

Going to look into both the cd cassette and bluetooth conversion.
On the pone conversion, do the installed car dial features work with it too?

I did not order the phone for mine back in 01-- the system was already behind the curve when it was new.

The work around that I saw recently in another x308 used the bluetooth microphone and sent the sound through the car speakers - but that was all. None of the in-car phone functions worked .... other than the mute. Its not really interfacing with the system in the car -- that was handled by the old phone. It was basically using the car as an external speaker.

The head unit's buttons are not used for dialing... but I use voice dialing when in the car anyway. You do need to use the motorola's control panel for starting or answering a call, but it is very small, and some have even hidden it under the ash tray door, so it is even more unobtrusive.
