no spark....help
Hello forum readers,
I recently had an issue with my 2000 xjr. While returning home from State College, PA. to Hollidaysburg,PA I got a low coolant message follwed by restricted performance. Performance was restricted and I watched the temp gauge closely. Temp never got above Normal and the restricted performance went away. When I got home I noticed cooland under the Super charger. I assumed the restricted performance was related to the coolant leaked. I topped up the coolant and drove it the next day, everything was fine. then in a few days it all happened again. I removed the SC and replaced alot of hoses changed oil in the SC, and installed 4 new coils. It fired right up, but ran a littlle rough. I turned it off , installed the other 4 coils. Canks but no start. Did a hard reset ...no start. I would appreciate some help.
Thanks,
Dave Redline

My battery just went south (slow crank, no start) the new battery has the starter spinning faster but she still won't start. I've read about bore wash here but have never run into it on any other car.
What makes our jaguars susceptible to this and how do you address it?
Can I wait it out and try starting after a few hours or is something else required?
Thanks.

Bore wash sometimes occurs with nikasil linings. Once the oil has been flushed from the cylinder linings it has to be replaced. Holding the pedal to the floor to shut off the injectors ans turning the engine over several times for 10-20 sec. usually works. Then let up on the pedal to half or less and it should start. Another technique is to remove the plugs from one bank and introduce about a half teaspoon oil. Then turn it over while holding the pedal to the floor to distribute the oil, replace plugs and be prepared for a lot of smoke.
Fortunately the old girl cleared her throat and roared back to life after a 2 hour rest,
Thanks again, good luck with your no-start issues Mr Redline.
It's odd that your trouble started after changing coils but it very well could be the same issue described above as mine was not even close to catching until the bore wash was dealt with.
