Question Noise from front passenger wheel ( see video )

Hey Everybody,

(2001 Jaguar XJ8 Vanden Plas with about 176,000 KM)

I've been having an issue with an annoying noise coming from the front passenger wheel area for the last few months. I recently took it to my mechanic and they said the 'tie rod end' and 'stabilizer bar links' needed replacing. I got the work done ($234.00) and I'm still having an issue with this noise.

It's present while driving, usually at lower speeds and coming to stops, but sometimes if you really listen while going down the highway it will be there. It also makes the noise when you get in & out of the vehicle, and if you press down on the fender while the car is parked it will make the noise.

I took a short video to capture it the best I could. Sorry for the low quality & the fact that I took it at night...but I think it captured the sound quite clear.

Is it some aspect of the suspension? Any help would be appreciated!

Lower and/or upper ball joints.

But, most likely the lower ones.

Sbreeden,

I took the car to the mechanic and they said I need a new Control Arm w/Ball Joint & Bushing. I was quoted $663.91 for the parts & labor. What do you think?

I took the car to the mechanic only a week ago telling them there was noise coming from the wheel and they said I needed a tie rod end and stabilizer bar links which cost me $234.

You don't need to change the lower control arm, even though that is the easiest and fastest way.

But you can get the ball joint on ebay for $30.00 each and press them in. Look on Youtube for the procedures.

I have did the driver's side about a month age, will be doing the passenger side soon.
