Default One battery or 2 for keyless remote?

I keep reading of folks replacing their batteries with 2, but the tutorial I followed I think only showed one battery installed. I got a new CR2032 battery and it generally works well. I tried installing a 2nd one but there was no way another will fit. So how come I seem to be working on one battery while other folks are using 2?

One of my remotes stopped working, and when I opened it there were 2 batteries inside. Both are 2016. See photo. Hope that helps.

Interesting. Mine seems to work properly with one 2032

I'm a bit nervous about opening the remote that works, in case it won't anymore after doing so.... I'll let you know if I build up the guts, and get it done.

Id never ask you to do something youre not comfortable doing, but these are probably the easiest to open remotes Ive ever had. I can do it with a fingernail.

The one piece keys have one battery. I've replaced batteries (a single battery) for all three Jags. The model I have would not fit two batteries, the fit is very tight and two batteries would not allow you to push and close the cover.

I just opened the working remote, and it too has 2 x 2016 batteries in it. It works perfectly, but as I have a spare 2032 hanging around, I'll swap out the batteries in the "dead" remote, put in the 2032 and test it. Will report back.

Well I'll be buggered!!..... (Not being rude - that's an old Aussie saying when you find out something that blows you away).

I changed the dead remote's battery to the 2032, and now I have 2 working remotes (yes - all functions, just tested both). One remote has 2 of the 2016 batteries (that's the older one that worked when I got the car), and the remote that didn't work when I picked up the car now has a single 2032, and works fine now as well....... You'll need a more technical person than me to tell you why.

Oh and a pic of the little lady (or ladies - the wife's in the car):

Thanks Lyndon, the 2013s introduce a 3rd variable, as up until now Ive seen 2 2016s or one 2032. A 2013 is different than both. Will be interesting to see your results with a 2032. As it is, it seems to me my new 2032 is working very well and the only difference I can tell is with w 2016s, Id have a total output of 6v, while with the 2032 its technically only 3v. Yet it works. Those whacky Brits, lol. I mean, a 5-120.65 wheel bolt pattern?! Really? Whose ever heard of such a thing?!

EDIT: For some reason, I thought you said it had 2 2013s, not 2016s.

I'm rather amazed at the difference in the background of your car's picture, and mine.... I wouldn't be able to bring myself to take her out in those conditions.

Anyway - Enjoy!

That was the day I bought it and brought it home. I just had to take some pics for myself as well as family and friends

Default USE 2032 battery in the remote

according to the XJ series "Handbook Supplement" document on page 4.

The main difference between the 2016 and the 2032 is power , longevity and thickness...By the way, the first 2 digits ie "20" indicates the battery's diameter in mm while the last 2 digits (3.2 or 1.6 )indicates battery thickness in mm
2032 produces 3 volts with 230 Milliamp hours( mah) output
2016 ( single battery) produces 3 volts with 90 mha output ( less than half that of the 2032)
The general opinion is that the 2032 is the more reliable and longer lasting
battery

In the case of the jaguar remote whats interesting is that (2) 2016s in the remote are "stacked in series" and actually combined produce 6 volts while a single 2032 in the remote produces half of that (3 volts).
Apparently the remote is not so much voltage sensitive 3 v vs 6v but rather Milliamp capacity is the more important parameter.

None the less the Handbook supplement for the XJ serries ( JJM 18 02 19/201) published June 2001 confirms that the 2032 is the battery that should be used.Hope this helps.
