Default Overhead Console microphone?
I found there was a Microphone on the overhead console available on some X308 models

can some one tell me more about this?

Fitted to telephone equipped cars, if yours has the telephone module in the boot and a fixed/motorola in the centre console, it should have the mic, if not you can fit blue tooth, end of...

This is the OE Jaguar Microphone in my XK8 but a very similar Microphone was fitted to my XJ8L:



Confusingly, I have seen X308's with Microphones fitted which don't have the telephone system installed.
