I've been hearing quite a bit of road noise coming from the passenger side, and now I think I know why.
Looks like it is missing a foot or so of the door seal/weather stripping (sorry, don't know the Jaguar lingo yet).
I am thinking about just trying to glue on the missing foot with some weather stripping adhesive.
Any better ideas?
Where would I find the strip to use?

Door seal/weatherstripping 3M makes a quality one, got mine from Autozone a while back.

Yes AZ,Pep Boys or any similar chain usually carries it, it's self adhesive you just measure your amount cut,clean the area with a alcohol pad,peel the backing off,place, done deal.

You want to fix a custom made, model specific Jaguar door weatherstrip with a piece of 1-size-fit-all hardware weatherstrip?

A Jaguar is a luxury car and even a 16 years old one, is going to cost a lot of money to maintain and fix correctly.

If you can't afford to do it correctly, why buying a used luxury car in the first place????????????

 

So pay nearly 100$+ for an item to be shipped or 20$ on the spot remedy,,,? So yeah I'm going to ride around with my door roaring as I wait for my "custom" pliable piece to arrive. It's not like his whole door frame's sagging & gone it's a patch job that will suffice. Ran 3M for the same jobs on Infinitis & Jaguars no one knew the difference.

If the whole seal was breached, I'd say go get pillaged by the "custom" jobs.

Bottom line look @ what 3M has to offer you then decide for yourself, they offer thicker variations for marine equipment etc.

Robot if you want genuine Jaguar replacement it's called weather stripping/door seal. Good luck.

They're picky about resealing once off & aged they lose pliability.

I am new to Jaguar, but I am not new to old, expensive cars.
There are jobs that have to be done "correctly", there are others that just have to be done.
My car is never going to be a concourse winner, so replacing a piece that nobody sees unless the door is open with a non-Jaguar part is perfectly acceptable to me. It will be cheaper, easier, and I'm sure just as effective.
I will spend my money on things that I deem important to the overall well being of my car. This is not so deemed.

I remember reading years ago how Jaguar went to a Japanese company that was making custom molded weatherstrip for Lexus in order to develop their weatherstrip for the XK8/XJ8 range.
Cost was very high but so do was the quality.
I guess that those British and Japanese engineers wasted their time, they should just have gone to their local hardware store since their generic weatherstrip is, as you said, "as effective"

 

My friend, if you want to worry about stuff like that, please have an amazing time doing so.
I will not be going to a hardware store, but to an auto parts store to by a quality piece of new, not 16 year old automotive weather stripping, from 3M, a maker of fine adhesives for over 100 years.
On my death bed, I hope I will not regret this decision, but time will tell.

 

Hello Bob....looking at your pic of the missing piece, I would be inclined to buy
a secong hand door seal to replace the section that is missing.
Use black silicon to join and it should then behave like the original seal.
Keeoing out moisture and the noise which would drive me nuts ;o)
Your 3m patch would only be temporary and still noisy.

 

Yea I use silicone,mineral oil & gum arabic to err seal the deal w/ patching lol.

 

The patch is going on tomorrow. After it is installed, I will gauge whether or not it needs to be replaced.
If it looks the majority of the road noise, I will consider it completed.
If it is still annoying, I will look for a used part.

Not all owners are flush with money. The cars now have a market value well below $10k.

Wait a few more years until parts are listed as NLA in the Jaguar parts catalogue. Then you will have to either junk the car or join the club.

Heelboard fuseboxes are currently unavailable anywhere in the Jaguar system in North America. Available on ebay for as little as $10. Local ripoff "Jaguar Specialist" breaker got $50 in an emergency situation.

 

Hey everyone,
So we finally got a decent Spring day here in Chicagoland, and I didn't want to waste it. I replaced the antenna mast that wouldn't go all the way down (ebay $10 special). And, I took on the annoying door seal project.
I was going to go to Handy Andy's to see what they had to offer, but then remembered that I had some backer rod in the garage. It fit and looks perfect.
I used electrical tape to keep it fastened, but it's not exactly a perfect color match. I may use a Sharpie to blend it in a little better.
I hope this helps someone wrestling with the same issue.

 

Out of curiosity I called the person I sold my old patched Jag to & 2 years later it's still holding lol.

 

I have the same issue, but mine is even worse, to the point where the door wont close, and piece is dangling for its dear life..
So I went online and bought a passenger door weatherstrip, window strip and few other strip package of rpasenger side, for only 40 bucks free shipping.
Downloaded workshop manual online and I a m looking at the instruction, but it talkes about how I have to use the "trim removal tool" to remove the seal.

What is this trim removal kit that they refer to? can I do the work without this "special" tool?

 

Oh, I hope you guys know that the backer rod was an early April Fool's joke.
I patched with the Autozone stuff, it looks and sounds fine. I'll post a real picture when I'm at a computer.
