Occasionally I sense/hear what I originally thought was tensioner rattle but now I think I am actually hearing pinging or knocking. Only under med to hard acceleration.

I do have code P0442: Evaporative Emissions system leak (Small leak) which I don't think is involved.

It could be crappy gas even though I do only buy premium.

Ideas?

Any idea where to begin looking for the "small leak"?

The small leak could be the gas cap. Besides that, check all of the tubes in the evap system for cracks. The REAL wasy to find it if it is other than if the valve is leaking is with a smoke machine!

And yes, I cannot imagine an evap relationship to the noise.

 

When I got my car, I had same problem.
Suspected the tensioner chains as well, but quickly concluded it was pinging.

Ran some cleaner and went up one grade in gas (technically should not have been needed), and the problem went away.
