Apart from the "normal" 2nd hand car checks that you should do, the particular issues with this year of XJ8 are nikasil engine liners, water pumps, and timing chain tensioners

Do an advanced search, select only this forum (Jaguar XJ8 and Jaguar XJR) and use the following keywords :

1) Nikasil

2) Water pump

3) tensioner

That should give you enough background to know what to look for.

The only other notable item about your potential purchase is the very low miles for the year. I would be digging into the cars history a bit to make sure its clear why it has low miles.

I bought one about 2 years ago. Wheel bearings might need to be addressed and you should make certain to get the timing chain tensioners corrected. And, learn about Nikisal engines. But at that price, inspect it well and hope for the best. If it runs for a year, you not out much.
