Default Power drop

Over the last few weeks I have been getting a 'check rear lights' fault on braking. I release the brake and repress and it goes. Happens about once a day. Tonight I was driving home on the motorway doing about 70 and flashed my high beam for a split second to let somebody out. The car jerked and dipped in power, then PECUS T, ASC not available and Traction Control not available faults all flashed up for about 1 second each and everything returned to normal. It happened a few more times during the journey either when I flashed high beam or hit the brakes. The faults disappear from the dash in seconds and the car continues to drive fine.

Does anybody have any ideas?

Have you checked all of the grounding points? Corrosion there can cause weird electrical problems.

Not yet but I'm hoping to limp it through tomorrow and do that at the weekend. Are there any drain holes I should check that may be blocked around the bulkhead. It's strange it's only starting happening with the heavy rain.

My wife's XJ8 acted up in the rain, abs codes etc. Hardly ever happened in dry weather. I found two badly corroded battery grounding points. I repaired them and now several months later the problems have not reappeared.

I think the higher humidity during rain strained what was already a weak connection.

I was recently having same "check rear lights" fault, and on requesting help on this forum, Sean suggested verdigris, and said I should clean bulb contacts and fitting contacts with a light abrasive. I did this and on replacing the bulbs, have had no further problems with the sign. Nothing else related has appeared to happen. Thanks go to Sean for this invaluable tip.

I've had a similar problem before; driving along when several codes come on ( ABS, Trac, ect ) and the ac dropped as well. A few seconds later everything was back to normal. Never could find the problem even after testing the alternator, battery, ground connections, everything was in great shape. The problem never returned. Makes me think that our cars have problems regarding heat. Whenever the weather gets hot in California, that's when most of the glitches occur.
