Default Powersteering?

Hi there i wonde if someone can shed some light regarding someting i came across on the electrical diagrams.

Under "Power Assisted Steering" 11.1 there is two boxes on the drawing; the "Power Assisted Steering Control Module" and the "Variable Steering Converter".

What does theese units actually do?

I thought that the Jaguar Power steering was an quite ordinary one.. obviously im whrong..

I know the PS module can be switched off for a more 'manly' feel - in fact I've added a switch to turn on and off - helps with higher speed feedback while off, but in slow use the steering is heavy.
Variable speed converter is exactly that, it adds variable assistance at variable speed.
