That is state by state. My state is much different.
It will go by the state the car is registered.
Not if it is first registered in a non-title state (for cars over 15 years old) that allows out of state registrants. You would then have a transferable registraion that can be used to register it in your state with a non-salvage title.

Getting mighty fancy there. My statement stands. State by state. The OP should research what he is faced with in his home state before he monkeys around with laundering a title out of state to clean it. That would be more suspect to me than a salvage title with perfect documentation.
Still consider buying it back and fixing it up on the cheap even as a beater. Most of your issues could be fixed with junkyard parts; silver cars are a dime a dozen and you might be able to get a decently close match used; the paint work on the front and rear if done by a decent but relatively affordable shop in Michigan would be about 1000-1200. I bet you could have this decently well repaired for as little as $2500 total; assuming airbags didn't go off and driveability was unaffected; and this was a cosmetic accident.

It depends, but I have to consider the cost to re-buy the wreck, getting it back to FL, and the time/cost involved in sourcing or repairing parts.
Update: including FL tax and the repair credit, Geico's offer is $6100 for the car, less a $750 deductible (although that will come in time from the KY insurer).
Frankly, I am looking for more out of the car. A total payout of $6500-$7000 is more what I had in mind.
Reasoning: rare-ish trim, Alpine option, low mileage (84,500), and above average maintenance.

Here's NADA's valuation:
As an ex claim rep. The only thing they care about is documenting why they paid what they paid. Help them do their job by showing the options increase the value. There is some flexibility.
You should also wait for the other carriers offer.
Yeah what was the salvage price?? Maybe someone local would want it too. There a jag club or brit car club nearby?
Didn't ask. I am not terrifically interested in repairing it + the maintenance I had in mind: e.g. a transmission fluid change imminently, idler pulley replacement in 15k miles (the 100k mark), rear shocks also at the 100k mark, and a brake check at the 100k mark.
Further, I need to go back to FL to get the title in order to finish this. Unfortunately, this is not an ideal time to expend time/energy brokering the sale of a significantly disassembled wreck.
Finally, this wonderful old cat has, objectively, been a money pit. I've put $10k into it in 2 years.

It's the lowball end of fair. $6k base + $500 cooling system credit + $200'ish is what I am looking for. Especially since I am losing out on the deductible for as long as it takes the KY company to process that!

I've been in discussion with my rep on this. I sent some documentation of purchase, maintenance records, etc with my offer: $7k all in, less a deductible for a check of $6,250, and I'll sign the title over on Saturday afternoon in FL. I'll settle for $6500 and be quite happy with $6750. I am not reaching for the stars, imo.
Edit: Repair estimate was just over $6200. In Florida, cars are totaled at 80% of value. In KY it is 75%.
Then call the other carrier and tell them what your deductible is. You don't have to wait on the other company to getting around to asking for it...... You might have to send them a copy of your policy with the deductible listed or the letter from your carrier with the deductible taken out.
Knowing insurance yards all badges are gone as well as your leaper

Yeah, the car was already substantially stripped when I went to retrieve my possessions/things & Florida plate.
On the plus side, I did find ten Canadian dollars in change in my center console and coin bin (aka that container next to the cigarette lighter). That will cover some coffees next time I am in Maple-land.
