Default Rebuild or upgrade 4.0 engine in 2000 jaguar

Is it possible or recommended to rebuild the 4.0 engine in a 2000 jaguar? I read other posts where other people have replaced the AJ26 4.0 engine with the AJ27 4.0 engine, but there seems to be conflicting information whether or not the AJ27 4.0 liter engine is a simple install. Some of the posts suggests that you cannot simply install the upgraded AJ27 4.0 engine into a car that originally had the AJ26 4.0 engine.

Any input or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Quick question. Does the 2000 Jaguar use the AJ26 or AJ27 engine? I thought the AJ26 engines were used from 1997 to the end of 2000. Is this correct.

Thanks.

1999 was the transition year from AJ26 onto AJ27. The transition was staggered and went by VIN/MY number. The data you need are on this site somewhere in the stickies, I believe. I've never used it so I cannot tell you where to look. You want the vehicle spec guide. It is an older one (2003, I think) but with the correct specs.
