I have a ‘99 XJR that’s a Japanese import. I’m from the UK.
All my remote fobs (including the one that came with the car, but I’m not sure if that’s a replacement or a genuine Japanese spec) aren’t connecting to the car, even though the car has no issue being in the programming mode.
I am aware there could be a difference in the frequency transmitted.
Is there a workaround for this?
If it helps, the car does not automatically lock when driving off, so perhaps there could be a different, underlying fault.
The correct remote for a 1999 model should be LJA2610BB, 433 MHz (frequency written at the back). It looks like this:
A somewhat similar looking remote is LJE2610BB (or BC), also 433 MHz, but this will not work on 1999 year models. This remote is for later models, VIN-s F20645 to F59525, and it looks like this:
There were also 315 MHz remotes, LJA2610AA and LJA2610CA, which were used on some models. I do not know exactly which, but it seems these were for the early European spec models and possibly even on later years models in some countries. These should have XR83-15K601-AA written on the back.

Thanks for the detailed response.
Yes, one of my remotes is LJE2610BB, however two other remotes are LJA2610BA, which also do not work.
