Remote programming not working
Need help!
My remote battery died the other day. I bought a new battery, but now I cant get the remote to program correctly.
I followed the procedure, and it appears to work, but remote only works once, then ceases to function.
Here is what I am doing:
Driver door open. Hold back light stalk. Insert key. Turn to position 1. Pull stalk 4 times, I hear one beep. Push a button on remote, I hear one beep. Turn off key and remove, I hear one beep.
Then, I close the driver door. I can hit lock or unlock, and it will work once, and lock the doors, but then it doesn't function any longer. I cant unlock or lock the doors again with the remote. I have tried the programming sequence like ten times, with exact same results.
What am I doing wrong? Remote was fine until battery failed.
Thanks.

Genuine Jaguar remote or a Chinese knockoff?
Have had some new Chinese knock offs with issues.
Used Jaguar remotes i purchased all seem to work well.
Some are beat up a bit, but still work great.

Well, as far as I know its original, it came with the car when I bought it, but it was used.
I found out, because I had to go somewhere, that after I got to my destination, the remote was working.
I guess one must then start the car after programming the remote, for it to function after programming.
I did it like ten times, and it would only work once. But after I started the car and shut it off, the remote worked normally again.

Firstly it's the car that's being programmed, not the remote fob.
Secondly, I think the procedure you are trying is for adding extra fobs and it requires two already registered fobs to be entered first before a third one can registered.
Thirdly, a fob shouldn't need to be re-registered with the car after a fob battery replacement; the fob chip's I/D number will still be the same.
The first thing I'd do is make sure that the battery contacts in the fob are clean, and then try a second new battery (of a reliable make) and make sure it's well within its sell-by date.

Fine, so it's only the transponder that needs two working examples, and not the remote ...
But a remote fob (or at least a genuine Jaguar fob) still shouldn't need to be re-registered to the car after the fob battery is replaced because the remote chip I/D number doesn't change, and nothing has happened to make the car forget the remote chip number.
I think the answer is that replacing the fob's battery has disturbed something in the fob; possibly the fob's remote buttons (they are known to give trouble over time), or the battery contacts, or the new battery itself. The fact that it works once but not several times in a row would seem to point to that.

In fact ... thinking about it a bit more ... if it's just the 'unlock' feature that doesn't work, but the 'lock' still does, then my money is on the 'unlock' microswitch having gone u/s.
These miniature microswitches can become a problem with age; over time they have been reported by number of people both here and in the UK Jag forum too. There are a few traders (here in the UK, so certainly somewhere in the US too) who advertise that they can replace them.

I could program the remote, and hit any button once, and it would work once.
So I could program it, hit unlock, and it would work, but then if you try to use it again, no buttons would work.
Somehow starting the car once fixed the issue, and it worked after that.
The key worked fine, no issues with the key itself, just the remote programming.
Its working fine now, so I don't think there is anything wrong with the remote.
