Default Remote "unlock" works, "lock" not so much!?

For some reason my only remote works to unlock perfectly, but to lock, only one time out of 10. I checked circuit board in the remote and installed new battery, still nothing. Little help please

Apparently, some models have an interlock in the form of a flap inside the ignition keyhole. If the flap sticks, the security system will sense that the key is still in the ignition. That condition stops the remote from locking the car.

The fix was to squirt some WD-40 in the hole and work the key in and out to spread the film.

Before you do this blindly, you may wish to look in the ignition keyhole and see if you see this flap.

Thank you.
I checked ingnition key hole and flap was there, lubricated it anyways.
Still the same issue, no locking, so I have to use my key every time.

Do you only have one remote? It could just be a bad button. My car came with no remotes, so I bought two on eBay for $25 each and programmed them myself. Programming was very simple. I think that's probably the most likely culprit unless you have two remotes and they are both doing the same thing.

Oh... I just re-read your post. You only have one. I see three for sale on eBay right now ranging in price from $25 to $50 2001 jaguar xk8 fob items - Get great deals on eBay Motors, XKR items on eBay.com!

Personally, I'd spend the $50 on the new one. You never know what you're getting with used stuff.

Or, you could buy this one on Amazon: Amazon.com: Keyless Entry Remote Fob Clicker for 1998 Jaguar XK8 With Do-It-Yourself Programming: Automotive It's only TWO HUNDRED AND NINETY DOLLARS!

I found an even cheaper NEW one. 00 01 02 03 JAGUAR XJ6 XJ8 XK8 XJR S-TYPE Remote NEW - eBay (item 180641860841 end time Mar-26-11 19:20:54 PDT)

$35 + $5 for shipping. Or, you can bid three dollars less and maybe win it for $31.09 in two days. Programming is easy. Here's how (I copied and pasted this from another thread):

1) Open your driver's door
2) Sit down and admire your amazingly beautiful car, then pull the highbeam stalk back and hold it.
3) Insert key... turn to first position. (On mine, there seemed to be a position before position #1. It moved only a tiny bit. That one didn't work. Need to move it more for position #1.)
4) Release high beam stalk. Then pull stalk to you and release 4 more times. You'll either hear a chime (I didn't) or see a little red light near your gear selector light up
5) Press the lock button on your remote one time.

Thank you Rev!
I just bought this one, so we will see if it is remote. Mine is all rubbed out anyways.
I did check the button and soldering on PCB, everything seems to work, however with the modern tiny electronics, it is hard to tell if there crack somewhere.

Yey, got it to work. New remote came in and got programmed easily.
It was bad "lock" function in the remote.
Thank you Reverend!
