Default Replacing front upper bushings...hard?

I looked at the A-arm assembly today after taking the wheel off. From the looks of it, I can probably change upper bushings without the speciat spring compressor tool that JTIS says to use... Regualr "outside spring" compressors wont work. I loaned a pair from Autozone and there really isn't enough space for them. The "camber tie down links" as they're called, are ~ $280. I figured that rules out doing the lower bushings. For the uppers, I can jack the front of the car up and set the frame on stands, then use the jack to lift the A-arm, easing the tension on the upper wishbone bushings... I figured I can swap the lower shock bushings while I"m at it... What do guys think?
