On my way back from Detroit I saw this 2002 Vanden Plas for sale for $4699. It has some serious rust over the rear wheel wells as shown in the pictures. Mileage 180,000. VIN SAJDA24C82LF47098. Did not test drive it as dealer was closed. I am not in the market to buy another XJ8.
But I have posted some pictures of this car if anyone wants a project to work on.

 

It would be a project, that's for sure. With rust and mileage, this car is overpriced. For that kind of cheese, one can buy a rust free in CA/AZ with less miles too.

I agree, I think that the price could be talked down quite a bit, but the next Jaguar I buy will come from one of the southern States.
My wife drove my XJ8 for the 1st time last Saturday now she want's one. But I will wait awhile before I buy it.

 

That was exactly my situation. My wife drove S430, and I bought my VDP. She liked the Cat so much, that I "lost" my car for a while. I ended up buying one for her, and I went with 2003 with salvage title. It was salvaged because of the front left impact. The fender, radiator, headlights, and the hood was replaced, painted to match, and the car drove like a dream.
I don't mind the salvage title at all. She will drive it to the ground, and it will never be for sale, so who cares.
I paid $3500.- for it and the wife is having a blast. The best thing? I reclaimed my VDP, and the Benz became the "family" car. Family of two. She drives her cat alone, I drive mine alone, and when we go out of town together, we take the family car.
