Default Mufflers XJ8 vs. XJR

Are the rear mufflers the same or at least interchangeable on these two cars? A guy near me is selling a pair from an XJR and I'm wondering if they'd fit my XJ8.

Thanks

JEPC says no. Although it might be something as simple as the outlet pipe being bigger to fit the larger diameter tips.

They're a direct bolt-on, a great user on here gave me some XJR-100 mufflers on my old XJ sport (same engine/exhaust as XJ8) and they bolt right on, the outlet pipe is bigger but the one it bolts on to is that same size. I still have my XJ Sports stock mufflers if anyone needs an OEM one!

Has anyone replaced the factory rear mufflers with straight pipes? It looks like a couple minor bends and weld on the tips and you'd get a little more rumble without being too out of character. Just thinking about it...

No havent replaces them with straight pipes but replaced both. One got a hole in it some how (not rusted looks punched in. Dont recall running over anything) and the other fell off the rea mount and cause a wield to crack o nthe pipe. Since I ordered the mufflers and removed them prior to the new ones getting in, I drove it a few days like it was with no mufflers going back and forth to see if someone could install the mufflers (no luck so I did it myself.) Ironically even without the mufflers the car wasnt as loud as most without mufflers. Barely knew they was gone. It sounded a little more throaty but not obnoxious. So I imagine straights will sound similar.

Straight piping is common on W126 Mercedes for the center mufflers (lots of bends and if live in salt area they will rust around the seams. So most people just replace them with a "Cigar" pipe and no noticable difference in noise although the center mufflers on those cars are supposed to be anti-resonators. Owned one W126 with OEM center muffler and one without not a difference especially on the interior. In fact didnt realized the "cigar" piped W126 was straight piped under one day I had to do some work under there and noticed it.
