Default Saying Goodbye to the VandenPlas

Well, after almost 3 years, 80,000km and thousands in endless repairs, I have decided to part with the VDP. The other day while I was driving, out of nowhere all of the brakes seized, slamming me to a stop from 60 km/h. It turns out that the differential mounts were so rotten that the rear axles were banging back and forth as I drove. When my mechanic went to put it up on the hoist, the driver's frame rail was so rotten that it came right up through the floor pan. On top of the list of about 15 other minor things that were wrong with it already, I decide to pull the plug, and sold it to my mechanic for $500. He plans to use it as his shop run-around car until something completely catastrophic happens to it... I really didn't want to let this car defeat me, but it appears to have won the battle. For now, relying solely on the '100' as the daily driver.

I wish I could say that parting is such sweet sorrow, but honestly this was a mercy kill. This kitty lived long past her 'best before' date and had to be constantly resuscitated on a regular basis. Time to put her down.
