Default Starting issues

Hi all.
i tried starting the car earlier on and it refused to turn over. when i turn the key i hear a clicking noise from the engine and a faint whining noise, The lights and dash are all lighting up ok so im wondering if its maybe just a weak battery needing charged.
Any help would be great
cheers

Check battery first. You need at least 12.5v. Check battery cables. Check grounds. And check the false bulkhead.

After checking battery charge and everything else, try waiting a few seconds between turning from ON to START (so, turn key to ON, wait for system check to end, then crank). I've had the click, whine, no turn over, no errors happen a couple times when I got overeager and turned the key immediately to start (like is done with most other cars...) but waiting a second or two seems to fix that.

That's either an old and failing battery or lack of use?

Seems the problem has came from an old Halfords battery that was as dead as as dodo.
Fingers crossed once I change the battery I won't have any more issues
