Default Supercharged Vanden Plas vs. XJR

Does anyone know if these two cars are similar aside from
the longer wheelbase and added luxury touches? Do they
share similar suspension upgrades and supportive seating?

There are several discussions going on the supercharged VDP models, here is one. From what I know it is a VDP on the inside, so the seating is not the sport seating, but rather the Autolux Connolly. I believe the suspension is the sport suspension, but the wheels are 17" not the 18" of the XJR.

The model will generally give the performance of the XJR, but be more blended with the luxury of the VDP. This means that if you would prefer a VDP to the sport model, then the supercharged version will give the horsepower and torque as well as transmission improvements.

I would love to have both to be able to choose depending on my mood, but never having to give up the drivetrain.

My 2001 VDP S/C has the comfort suspension, not the sport suspension and does not have a rear anti-roll bar. I want to install 1 if anyone has 1 availalble. It also has the adaptive shocks and they are the comfort type also. I believe the springs are also softer with the comfort suspension.

The brakes are the same as the XJR (non brembos models) requiring the 17" wheels and the tires are 235/50/17. I think the engine, trans, and mechanicals are otherwise the same as the XJR. The power and huge rear legroom of this car are the perfect combination

And the same for my '02 Super V8. Soft suspension, wallows in the curves but with 105k miles I think it's probably time to update it.

Hitting the freeway entrance ramp the other day a Z06 started to shoot around me. I already had the tranny in sport mode so I punched it but it was too late.

He walked me, but I bet it wasn't by anywhere near as much as he was expecting. So someday AVOS and I will have to talk about his upgrades so that doesn't happen again.

Gotta love the Super V8.

Mine too, agree with all the above, however my S/C VDP is faster than my 2002 XJR 100 !
I can also hear the supercharger MORE in the VDP. Maybe it has an upgraded pully on it...?

Donzi, it should not be a noticeable difference, the cars are nearly identical with the XJR some 100lb lighter. Have you checked your throttle cable slack on the XJR? If that is not it then you may have compression loss from age/wear on the XJR significantly more than the VDP SC.

Yes, I did check, and the VDP has an aftermarket upgraded pulley kit on it.
That's why the supercharger makes a bit more of a whine than the other 2 cars.
The XJR 100 only has 22,000 miles and it is identical in performance to my 2003 XJR with 40,000 miles.

Can you tell if the pulley kit is both upper and lower, or just upper? For it to be noticeable and a heavier car, the boost increase must be substantial.

You would be surprised how noticable the increase in boost is. I had the upper pulley on my 2005 SV8 & it was much quicker than stock.

Given a choice I'd take an SC VDP for the sleeper aspect and the long wheelbase.

The sleeper aspect was part of the attraction for me. The 1st thing I did was tint the widows - with this Arizona sun I had to - but went light because I didn't want to look like the typical XJR.

What I don't like is that Jaguar went cheap on our grill surround & trunk trim - Super V8's of my model year have the standard smooth chrome versions instead of the nice heavy chrome scalloped versions of the VDP. Why they decided that combo I'll never understand but switching means plugging/painting the two outside attachment points on the trunk lid because the VDP trim is narrower.

Super V8's and VDP Supercharged models are so rare and photos hard to find that I didn't pick on that detail difference until after I purchased. Just one of the many little things that will be corrected over time.
