Default Timing chain & engine squeak

Guys,

I have finally buckled and have taken the car to Jag for the tensioner replacement. They are replacing both sets of tensioners and the chains for $820 - sound like a good deal??

As for the squeaking from the front of the engine both the serpentine belt and supercharger belts need replacing. He also mentioned that the supercharger pulley was the old kind and an updated version has been introduced - anyone heard of this? The whole job is going to cost about $1400 which I will swallow for piece of mind - plus the work will be guaranteed.

Any ideas about the pulley??

Ta

Steve

Hi Steve,
From what I have seen the ususal cost to replace both sets of tensioners is well over $1k...
$820 with a new chain looks pretty good to me. Where are you? Maybe I can use the same dealer... I have an 01 Xj8 with 55k miles. No problems, but it may be a good idea to get done...

Hello Jan,

Well it is definitely worth doing - peace of mind really. I live in Alexandria, VA and the dealer is located in Tysons Corner.

Cheers

Steve

eurotoys will sell you a lower pulley that adds at least 30 rear wheel hp (or more) ...for 800.00..comes with belt...over 4 lbs of boost...

820.00 sound dirt cheap for the tensioner job from what I have heard....be nice to get that price from my dealer 300 miles away...I expect to pay more when the time comes...my engine supposedly has 24,000 miles so I will wait for a couple of years...

I had eurotoys channel a supercharger rebuild...and porting for $1,100...rebuild alone was about $525.00 or so...

sound like you have an affrordable dealer nearby...good for you!!

The dealer in Las Vegas wanted $1,200 to do mine, and that was just tensioners and valve cover gaskets.

The price you got sounds like the price for the twoupper tensioners only, be sure he understood you want all four tensioners and chains. This price sounds too low. The price for all four would runover $1500 at an independent shop in my area.
