What is the tow ball weight for an xj8 1999

If you're referring to the weight on the ball itself, and not the actual towing weight, the manual stated the following:

Trailer (w/brakes) - Recommend 3307 lbs / 1500 kg
Trailer (w/brakes) - Maximum 4188 lbs / 1900 kg
Trailer (unbraked) - 1653 lbs / 750 kg
Trailer nose load - 167 lbs / 76 kg

It is actually quite high. Consider, it is only a saloon/sedan. Even the most rigid and stiff cars from Volvo (200/700/900) have a 75 kg load. So it is actually quite sturdy. My Pa's Fiat Ducato van (Dodge ProRam) has about 80 kg...
