Default Trunk lights

Hi,

The trunk lights seldom turn on. Where is located the sensor which determines if the trunk is open or close?

Thanks in advance!

It's a fractured wire in the loom that runs down the right hand hinge on the trunk lid - a very common problem - you have to strip back the loom tape and inspect/check each wire for breaks, sometimes not obvious as the wires are frayed within the coating.

Thanks Sean for this tip. My 2001 XJR also had an intermittent trunk light fault, which I thought would be a switch malfunction. Your tip took me straight to the problem.

Spliced in a section of replacement wire rather than use a bullet connector right at that weak point that bends when trunk opens/closes. The broken trunk light wire was red/white trace...but there are several other red/white trace wires in there too. Also an orange wire was on the verge of failing (plastic cracked but copper intact)...possibly license plate lamp, so a good find there too.

Having repaired it I wanted to then ensure that the trunk light did actually go out straight away rather than timing out after 15 mins. Had to climb in the trunk and trust my daughter to then let me out again...I could see she was tempted to prank me.

Took 45 minutes to fix. Great help - thanks much. That's another small niggle off the list.

Happy Motoring.

Default Wires are fine

I checked the wires and they are fine. However I have discovered that trunk lights work fine only if key is at position I or II. So, what should I check next?

Thanks in advance!
