Exclamation Violently shaking steering wheel when driving/breaking

So my 2001 X308 was in the shop for new engine mounts and a replacement of the front springs.

Ever since it was "repaired", my steering wheel is violently shaking for a period of five minutes which begins after approximately five minutes of driving the car. During this period I'm driving on a flat highway with only very easy curves and slopes.
It is mostly around a speed of 80-100 km/h and it is not really dependent on the speed of the car.

When breaking, the shaking gets much worse. I'm quite sure it comes from the front wheels.

After five more minutes the shaking stops and I can drive the next 30 minutes at various speeds (70 to 130 km/h) without any problems.

So it seems my repair guy did something wrong, because it only started after the spring/engine mount job.

Does anybody know what the reason for this might be? To me, it seems something is loose?

Also when cold starting the car and doing the first move forward, I hear a metallic "spring"-like noise now. Did they install the front springs wrong?

Thanks for any ideas.

Some ideas that I have are:
- The front wheel "balancing" bar (which does not seem to be loose)
- Wheel bearings? (I shook the tires when standing and they did not move)
- Wheel alignment? (Went to shop to check wheel alignment, it's allright)
- Wheel quality? (They seem allright and have 2.6 bar if air pressure)

The work that was performed needs to be double checked. If a fastener was loosened or removed, it of course needs to be tightened. One thing that I know that has to be at least dropped down is the steering rack. One of the engine mounts cannot be removed unless the rack was dropped down. I would at least inquire to have the work rechecked for properly tightened fasteners. Same goes for the wheels and/or brake calipers if any other work was performed at the same time the mounts were replaced.

I had that problem about a year ago; it was the subframe V-mounts that were broken.

For me, in the end, it was signs of a stuck brake caliper. I had to replace front right brake caliper. Hope this helps!

I had this same last summer. Replaced new rotors and pads and after couple of thousand km s violent shaking in steering wheel. Found out that front left caliper piston had rust in in its surface and stick the piston. Result was warped brake rotor..And of course all 4 caliper overhaul.
