What causes paint chipping?

Stones. And it is only on the passenger side, because most stones on the road live around the edge of it, the same edge your passenger side wheels drive along...

thats not a stone chip .
that is evidence that the arch has been rolled to fit larger wheels at some point .

I mentioned this earlier on your other thread.
I guess it is the tire which clipped the lip and bent it.
Too large diameter tire, or too little offset.

too much hardner in clear, and or crappy prep work from a body shop. Never seen OEM Jaguar paint chip like that. Even when over size tires hit. Crack yes but the paint doesn't chip off
