Default Where does the 3 rd pin come into play on the washer pump?

My washer pump quit. Purchased one offered as universal replacement. The replacement only has 2 wires. Hot and Ground.

The OEM one has a 3 pin connector. I assume it also has a hot and ground but what is the 3rd pin for?

Do I really need all 3 pins? I just need it to squirt. I'm not worried about the water level.

Yeah, its says right there, fluid level (YG). Have you metered your feed plug for power? The connector is known to corrode for their location (especially if your shore side here in FL) and some cleaning up can take care of that. You can use a 12v drill battery to fire off the pump to test it.

...or connect the supposedly damaged old pump to the battery directly - after measuring the incoming 3 wires with a multimeter to figure out, what + and what - is, so that you know, where to connect plus and minus to the pump directly...

PS: I just wanted to add the obvious: When you want to measure a voltage on the connector to the pump, the key has to be in ign. position II, you should poor water over your windscreen first and then someone else should press the button of wash-wipe inside of the car.
