Default Windscreen rubbers, front and rear

Hey guys,

does anyone know, if it is possible to refit the rubber seals (not the glue) to the screens without taking the screens out?

I want to respray my car and don't fancy taking the front and rear screens out in order to paint behind them. If I remove the rubebrs, it should work too - at least in my mind. But is it possible to refit them afterwards? Or is that an impossible job?

Cheers

Damien

I did something similar to what this guy did: Body Work & Paint - Jeep Wrangler using a small nylon rope under the seals to lift them away during painting (although I didn't spray with rattle cans like that guy did). Worked perfectly.

I like Samilcar's suggestion, here's another in that same sense, but I would combine the roll over trim tape with the rope method. This way you don't get any spray on the seal and it hardens up on you and starts cracking the seal.

I think there's a special system from 3M that enables underseal painting, of course the best way is screens out...

I just recently scrapped a 1998 Daimler and removed all seals from windows as well as the metal trim that goes along the roofline. It was not that hard.

The front and rear windows are glued to the body as on any modern car, so the rubber trim is just a rubber trim.. The hard part would be to refit the metal trim inside the rubber trim (i have never tried that so i cant really tell, i can only imagen since they sit very tight)... the metal trim inside pushes the rubber in order to make it stay in place.

The roofline trim is more or less just pushed on to the roof.. it was just a matter of carefully pulling it off.. be careful with how it is fitted in the front end, and dont twist it..
