Last week had random 'Battery Not Charging' message on Instrument display whilst driving along. I had the battery checked out, bit down on performance so changed it. I put my multi-meter accross the new battery with the engine running stayed at 12V so thought - alternator problem! Bought a reconditioned alternator with 12 month guarantee and my local mobile mechanic came round and fitted it. Guess what, the same message is displayed ' Battery not charging'. The mechanic checked wiring seems there is no voltage on the White / blue wire on the back of the alternator which should be battery voltage. Can anyone help me with the route of the wire and where it is connected? I can imagine it is going to be a nightmare. The only work carried out on the car recently is a gearbox swap and a front wheel bearing, can't see if that would have any bearing on this. If I can find out the route maybe I can save some time and cost to get this car back on the road. Much appreciated ......

 

check the ground straps have good connections at the engine/body located underneath level with the gearbox bellhousing - also battery to body earth connection in the trunk...

 

Car starts and runs fine. If there was a problem with the earth to the engine would the starter still turnover?
