They get so brittle with the heat I have a breaking about well just before it goes under the manifold. Yes I have fished a new one underneath there before it’s not that difficult. I have tried to repair a couple of them to with electrical shrink wrap more than one piece I slipped three pieces on about 4 inches long put the first one on shrink wrap it let it cool for the second one on the same thing it builds up pretty good with the shrink wrap and it’s pretty tight now that I have xj8s I don’t throw the old pieces away in case I need to make a new one or repair one

If you can’t get it fished under the intake, you can run the tube in the little valley between the intake and the cam cover, instead of underneath the intake. That’s what I did on my XJR, and the tube laid down in there nice and does not look out of place. The angle of the hose when plugging the vacuum fitting into the throttle elbow is not ideal, but it’s completely fine and I’ve had no issues with it. Again, this was an XJR, not an XJ8, so I’m not sure if that same little valley exists, but if it works for you, it’s an idea. If I didn’t point it out, you’d never notice it. Looks like it belongs there.

I had the same conundrum. As suggested to me on the forum:
I was able to straighten out a coat hanger, bend a hook on one end, feed the hook side through (under the manifold from the front to the rear) and attach the terminal of the hose to the hook then pull the hose through from the front. That was the easy part. Attaching the terminal that connects to the throttle body was a pain. I had to remove the small coolant tank and some other things to get to it.
I got a new hose, not expensive.
I'm glad I replaced it instead of repairing it.
